If Yoda is unknown homeworld and species how did he get into the Jedi Order anyways?

I think his origins are a mystery to the fans rather than the characters themselves.

Though, if someone as strong in the Force was simply left on the steps of the Jedi Temple, the Jedi aren't likely to turn him away simply because they didn't meet his parents.
