Hey all. I thought i would post in here to let you know . I used the password reset and it works. at first i thought it would not but bought it anyways. then i tried it and did the unlock and it didn't work. I was pissed. So i remember something about doing it 2 times so i did it twice and then logged into safe mode and the password was gone. one thing i should mention. i never saw my name in the user accounts. I saw my old account that my gf had on it and i saw admin. as well i have like 3 other user password for other stuff didn't know what it was but i did them all anyways. the first account it showed was the hidden admin account then some other ones pertaining to os system but not user accounts. one was help desk or something. also i am running xp but the drive was in fat and showed up as win95 lol.

but it works. and i now have all my documents and pictures as well as my emails whew.

thanks guys great job and a small price to pay to have this in case it ever happens again.

Hi and thank you for taking the time to write this.

The reason for you not seeing your login name in the list is because the account was initially set up as a different name and then changed later on. The old name remains as the name in the SAM file. You will notice that the folder where all the data for that username is the old name too. For instance, if the old username was john and you changed it to bill later on, your data for that user would be under c:\Documents and Settings\john

Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.

Thanks again,

Dana
