Title: Good 1st person shooters?

Ducc - August 17, 2006 06:59 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know of any good first person shooters out there? I just finished Halflife 2: Episode One a few weeks ago, and I'm anxious to play something else. I wish Episode Two was out; it looks awesome.

I read a review of Prey, and wasn't very impressed. Anything else?

EDIT: Really, it doesn't have to be a first person shooter. Anything fun and fast-paced would do.

If you are looking for single player action you would need to ask Dan. I don't play any single player FPS. However I would recommend getting Demos for FEAR and Quake 4. You should be able to get Far Cry cheap now and should enjoy it. The Call of Duty Series is also decent. If you liked Half Life 2 then you would probably like FEAR and Far Cry the best. FEAR though is massively taxing on systems.

For Multiplayer I recommend the Battlefield Series, including Battlefield 2.

For no cost I highly recommend some of the free Shooters here: XP Games Guide (Action)

Highly Recommended:
America's Army (An excellent realistic tactical shooter that is constantly maintained and updated with millions of registered users)
Wolfenstein Enemy Territory (The free multiplayer version of the retail game)

Recommended:
Nexiuz (Very high quality if you like death match)
Sauerbraten (Cube 2) (Still in developement)
Tremulous (Team based Multiplayer with more depth and classes such as engineers)
Alien Arena

Not Bad:
Legends (A clone of Tribes but with better graphics)
Tribes (good but dated and the amount of players on servers is limited)

The great thing about the free ones is it costs you nothing to play them. I really need a new computer to play the latest games so I haven't invested any money in them.

Did you get a chance to try any?

No, I had a lot of schiznit to do the past couple days. I'll probably check these out soon though. I downloaded the Dungeon Siege 2 demo and beat that; I don't think I like those games much, but it was okay.

America's Army might work now that I have DSL, so I'll check it out. I'd kinda prefer something with a storyline, but I guess I'll have to wait for HalfLife 2: Episode Two.

All the Free Shooters are mainly multiplayer. If you want some kind of a story line seriously check out Farcry if you have not before.

Oh yea, forgot that. I beat that a long time ago. It was a pretty good game. I beat Quake 4 also. I'll check out FEAR. Thanks for the suggestions, btw.
