Title: The latest attack on free speech
Description: Boycotting Glenn Beck

(I normally don't pay any attention to Glenn Beck, but this caught my eye...)

The "crime":

Fox Host Glenn Beck: Obama Is A "Racist" (VIDEO)

The response:

Glenn Beck's advertisers are backing away -- help us increase the pressure

QUOTE
This is great progress, and it shows how effective it can be when thousands of people tell advertisers not to support this kind of hateful rhetoric.

Uh huh. Yeah, great progress at trying to subvert the First Amendment.

Oh no, "hateful rhetoric"! We can't have any of that! It might... it might... cause annoyance! :osama: Oh, and this rhetoric is "hateful" because... hmmm... well, ok, Glenn Beck doesn't appear to be "hateful" towards Obama, just critical, but maybe Beck does "hate" Obama in his mind, and if only we could read his mind we'd know....

Well, the good news is, even though the above boycott is posted at the Huffington Post, at least some of the comments are against this nutty call for a boycott. I particularly like the following comment:

QUOTE
Option A: Circulate a petition for days and days to collect signatures from people who call themselves Democrats yet oppose free speech. Write a bunch of wimpy "Glenn Beck is mean" emails to advertisers, supplying laughs for years to come.

Option B: Change the channel.

Amen to that, brother.

The update:

Beck Boycot Backfires

^ Love the alliteration on that title :)

QUOTE
While an attempted boycott of Glenn Beck’s television show has scared away some timid advertisers, ratings for the conservative commentator’s FOX News show have gone through the roof, leading some experts to believe new and more loyal advertisers will return to the program at a higher rate.

...

Beck’s show ”had its highest rated week ever among Households (1,907,000) and Total Viewers (2,409,000), and second best week in the A25-54 demo (682,000),” according to Media Bistro.

As they say, any publicity is good publicity.

Beck is so silly that anyone who wants to boycott him is probably wearing their pants too tight anyway.
