The SSD Anthology: Understanding SSDs (AnandTech)
This is an excellent article that explains the reasons behind unexpected performance problems with SSDs. A limitation of Flash memory is that while it can read 4KB Pages, the smallest that can be erased is 512KB Blocks. To make matter worse Flash memory must be erased before it can be rewritten to. This causes various performance problems when an SSD drive gets full. |
