Wow, they actually kill off all the crappy characters from the first one and hired better actors. Ray Park as Snake Eyes was the only good casting from the first one. This looks like a big improvement over the first one.

I had hoped this would be good... But it looks like total crap! Such a childish nonsense. Ironically, the original "children's cartoons" are much more mature, because they were written by highly intelligent people and written with DEPTH. It's called art, mofos. Intelligent art. Figure it out. And since when does Andrew like killing off characters? Normally Andrew hates the killing off of characters in any form, even if it is justified. And the new characters? They get Bruce Willis for a cameo (playing whom, I have no idea), and his "cholesterol is a bit high". Gimme a break! They even managed to waste Bruce Willis! Sheesh! This movie is Lame-o Joe. Overall, these live action movies are an distortion and dilution of the name G.I. Joe. The prejudiced fools in Hollywood should have done the stylistically right thing and made an "Mature animated comic version / American anime style" G.I. Joe. ^ That would kick ass! ^ But that would require stepping out of the box, and hence would require vision and courage. Hmmm. Two traits that apply to the real G.I. Joe, but not to this movie. Forget this junk. Just go watch episodes of the original cartoon instead. It's so good that I want my children to watch it. And I'll watch it with them, and we'll both love it! ------ *** G.I. Joe *** He'll fight for freedom wherever there's trouble G.I. Joe is there! G.I. Joe! A real American hero! G.I. Joe is there! It's G.I. Joe against Cobra, the enemy, fighting to save the day. He never gives up. He's always there! Fighting for freedom over land and air. G.I. Joe! A real American Hero! G.I. Joe is there! *G.I. Joe is the code name for America's daring, highly-trained special missions force. It's purpose: To defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.* He never gives up. He'll stay till the fight's won. G.I. Joe will dare! G.I. Joe! A real American Hero! G.I. Joe! ------ ![]() ------ |

I don't believe you saw the first film.
The first movie was horrible, including the actors outside of Snake Eyes whom they got Ray Park to play - a real martial artist. Tatum Channing was horrible as Duke so I am happy they killed him. Just about every actor and character from the first film was unwatchable (except for Snake Eyes). It was so bad killing them off is brilliant as it effectively cleanses the movie of them - I love it! This time they got the Rock to play Roadblock which is an excellent choice and brought Bruce Willis in to play a General Joseph Colton who is from the comic book. Both should add actual acting abilities. This movie actually looks decent, especially with the Rock and Willis. From what I see they scrubbed every stupid thing from the first film and made a better one. |

Almost forgot - the absolute worst part of the first movie was Marlon Wayans as a "black" Ripcord. He more than anyone was the worst character/actor in the first film - absolutely unwatchable.

Here is a "realistic" battle sequence from the cartoon - the Joes teleporting in with giant cliff scaling robots while Cobra fires erratically not hitting anything then pours down molten lava setup just incase the Joes try to teleport in with their giant cliff scaling robots. When that doesn't work Cobra sends in the UFO platform then hang gliders? Also why are they lugging up artillery? Doesn't that defeat it's purpose?

So the only good actor in the first was the guy who didn't talk and we couldn't see his face? Why would they bring back Tatum Channing just to kill him? And isn't Duke sort of the main character of the series? They didn't kill everyone the guy who played Storm Shadow is back. How is Dwayne Johnson a good choice for Roadblock? Roadblock is black Dwayne is only half-black. And your saying a l wrestler is a better actor than all the actors in the first film? |

I remember that sequence! That's an awesome sequence! It's not about "realism". It's about intelligence and coolness. Which, by the way, is one reason why a "skillful comic book style" works MUCH better for G.I. Joe than live action. A stylish animation makes things realistic but with the extra edge. Like in the now classic cartoon series! DAMN! Just watching that sequence makes me want to watch that mini-series (part of the original series) again. G.I. Joe (the original series) was (and is) genius--real American genius--and cleverly educational at the same time. Which is why I want my kids to watch it, and I will be watching it with them, shoulder to shoulder on the couch! (Well... maybe shoulder to elbow... but... you get the idea!) |

Yes! The reason was is they cast someone with real martial arts skills and that is all he had to do.
Probably for continuity. I am happy because he was horrible and did not look or act like Duke. The first movie was so bad, I am happy they are killing him. Marlon Wayans should die a horrible death as well.
True and some other bad guys but most of the ones they are bringing back were the decent ones.
Come on the Rock is an excellent choice; ![]() ![]()
I don't consider most of the "actors" in the first film to be any good but the Rock can act. |
