Or Haiku.
Or Limerick.
Or Couplet.
Or Sonnet.

Some poetic homage to one of the six members of the Quadrilateral Family:

Square
Rectangle
Rhombus
Parallelogram
Kite
Trapezium (or for you Yanks- Trapazoid)

ENTRY#1

oh trapezoid or trapezium
(whatever you prefer best)
among the quatro sided
you outshine all the rest.
your sloping angles rising
like a pyramid without cap
rising up, to a flat surface
like some kind of evil trap.
I have a question though
what happened to square?
no, really, what happened?
He was sitting right there.
Hey now rectangle is gone!
This is getting really scary!
Did you see what happened?
Now I am feeling quite wary!
What is that? You have a plan?
I can climb to safety on you?
and you will keep me from harm?
Why of course I trust-

ENTRY#2

To Never Touch

Distance, direction, intersectionary angle
Attributes these sides ever share
Even if continued these sides never tangle
An eternally seperate line pair

They are not alone in their plight
for they each meet two others
who can never touch but keep in sight
their identical seperate brothers

A hell set by direction unbreachable
knowing of one so similar but unreachable

ENTRY#3

The war of Square and Trapezoid

"Oh trapezoid, you heartless shape"
Wrote the square, favorite one of Snape
"I am all the others, the others ain't me
so why is it that you, that i cannot be?

I'm parallelogram, i have got
equal parallel sides, opposite ones
I am a rhombus, you twat.
all my sides are the same, what funs

I am a kite too, adjacent equal line
I'm a rectangle too, 90 degrees each angle, fine.

But you alone, are specified badly.
EXACTLY one set of parallel sides, sadly.
The others cannot be parallel" square wrote madly
"I will one day hurt you, cuz my name is Bradly!"

Trapezoid read the letter, and gave a short reply
"3 of my sides can be like you, but not the last.
when i send this, to your home i'm gonna fly
we will have the battle, and you I shall blast!
you really need to stop thinking you are all that
i limit your power, for my name is Pat.
It is good you are not me and i am not you
for if you were me, your reign might be true
i admit you are not as insane as Rick Santorum
but people hate you, i read in a forum.
by the time you get this i will be halfway there
so now it is your time to prepare"

The Square and Trapezoid met and they bowed.
Their battle was about to begin, oh so loud.
But then came a shape which neither did recall
and for them both it was a downfall.
While both were the shape, but it was neither
to understand you need to be there.
there is another shape that has sides at four
a QUADRILATERAL it is, and it sure wipes the floor
Since it could be any shape it became
A shape with no two lines that are the same

So to make a long story short (too late)
the square and trapezoid both met their fate
The two left the war ground, agreed on a truce
quadrilateral had the power of Lee, first name Bruce

And so quadrilateral took the throne
for he represents his complex shapes alone
and what is the moral of the story told here?
Never forget the basics, or you live in fear

ENTRY#4

Rhombi Against the World

The rhombus sure is an interesting creature
Equal lateraled and two sets of equal angles.
A smooshed square, but none of the respect
that always comes along with being a square.

I bet one square was so jealous of another's perfection
that he dropped some sort of other shape one top
to squish him.
A balbis or a digon, probably. Nobody knows what they are anyway.

But seriously. No one comes up with a design
and says "you know what would look really good?
A Rhombus."
Why would you do THAT when you can have the symmetry of a square?

The rhombus needs some love too.
Apart from parallelograms especially.
...
Equal sides mean something, man.

ENTRY#5

Here's a poem about my friend, Mr. Rhombus!

***
This is Mr. Rhombus,
He'd like to meet you!
He's just like a square,
but slightly .... askew.

He's not always right
That's not his angle
But he's always composed...
(of two similar triangles)

When in a fight,
He'll take all of the sides,
make all of them equal,
through conflict he slides.

Make sure you never cross him,
and NEVER cross him twice
He'll perpendicularly bisect you
and it surely won't be nice.

He has two grandmas
both exactly the same.
They're tiny and ancient,
but always glad he came.

Just like him, they're...
a pair o' lil' ol' grams
(*<*Sorry*>*)

ENTRY#6

~~Shape Poem Entry~~

SQUARES!!!

Out of all the quadrilaterals
The square is the best
It has many uses
And passes every test.

Squares are simple
They have four sides
Same lengths and angles
Proportional in size.

Squares can be found everywhere
The even size makes it easy to use
When people need a shape
They know which one to choose.

I hope you agree
That squares are great
As I've shown you
It's won this debate.

ENTRY#7

Four lines it has of equal length
Euclid said it's not a square
Equality is not its strength
For the angles are not there

It could be a crooked diamond
Or a slanted shifted shape
If two corners have been widened
Then the others never gape

So now we have my final point
The lesson is upon us
If a square would disappoint
Don't forget about the rhombus

ENTRY#8

Forever graceful in the air,
Nothing quite so debonair...
A kite, a kite! I love my kite!
The best shape ever made for flight!

Two sides one length, two sides another,
Bound by twine and sticks, oh brother...
Those same sides, note, not parallel,
Else it won't fly that well.

One line, from top to tail,
Cuts identical; elsewhere fail.
Two equal triangles you get...
But flight afterward? Nyet.

To the left, and to the right
'dentical angles, bound up tight.
Sticks of support, to keep airborne.
Without my kite, I'd be forlorn.

The tail's not quite part of the shape...
But without it, how can I relate...
These pretty colorful bows...
Like a rainbow, or maybe Rain-doh.

Four sided device you have now heard of...
I'm sure you might even feel some love.
Finally, I have no more to write,
so let's... go fly a kite!
