There are some really good websites for writers out there. Here's one of my favourites:
http://www.creativity-portal.com/ It's got prompts, tips, articles about how the psychology of a creative person works etc. It's a fun read, although the helpfulness might vary from person to person. --------------------  |

It gives you a bit of a boost when you have no ideas. You get a setting, a starting phrase and four words which you must include. A great exercise to get those creative muscles working. -------------------- |

Off at a slight tangent, a bit of legendary history for you. In 1974, Star Trek fanwriter Paula Smith was getting so fed up with superpowered nymphets swarming over the Enterprise that she decided to write a parody of the genre. Meet fifteen-year old Lieutenant Mary Sue as she boldly goes where no fangirl has gone before - say hello to Sue on her very first appearance!

Original flavour Trek. And her romantic aspirations? Ah, that would be telling ...  A site you might like - The Fanfic Symposium. A huge collection of essays on all aspects of fanfiction, with the field guide to Mary Sues and the crossover discussions particularly good. Also, it may not be fanfiction but The Eye of Argon by Jim Theis is definitely worth a look. A legendary badfic in the Conan style - follow Grignr the barbarian and his incoherent quest, and marvel at the staggering awfulness of the writing! There is a fic where Thranduil writes to the fanfic population telling them what they can andf cannot do with his son. And I think Elrond does too... I might have to go find it.
