Story is here.

You are the music while the music lasts--T.S. Eliot

"Stop the damn texting and pick up a book!"--Grandmama, "The Addams Family" (Musical)

"Tomorrow will be better for as long as America keeps alive the ideals of freedom and a better life." —Walt Disney

"Out on the Mira on soft summer nights
Bonfires blaze to the children's delight
They dance round the flames singing songs with their friends
I wish I was with them again

And over the ashes the stories are told
Of witches and werewolves and Oak Island gold
The stars on the river they sparkle and spin
I wish I was with them again

Can you imagine a piece of the universe
More fit for princes and kings?
I'll give you ten of your cities
For Marion Bridge and the pleasure it brings"--Song for the Mira by John McDermott, performed by Celtic Thunder

Ah, the title is witty...but couldn't you change something to separate MST and review thread? Pretty please? fade.gif

QUOTE
Daniel Ignatius McMullen

blink.gif Interesting...

QUOTE
He wasn't a problem child; indeed, Iggy was an honor student, a gifted artist and musician

Well, some parents take issue with their children pursuing career in arts rather than, say, law...

QUOTE
Of course, Fern partially blamed herself, who was very much into 60's pop culture. But whereas Fern was more the Mama Cass type, Iggy saw himself as a Midwestern version of Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, with a little Jerry Garcia thrown in.

Non-American readers: YAWN.
(And I suspect a number of under-30 American readers joins them. But then again, her main audience are middle-aged horny fanwomen who crave some French lovin'...)
Like you said, this could have been summarised in "he was a rebel with leftist tendencies".

QUOTE
Mac: Good Jonas, isnft there anyone with a NORMAL name in this place? Like Tom?

Let's feel lucky there aren't any Elvises...yet.

And why do I get this feeling Iggy was inspired by Iggy Pop?

QUOTE
Then something snapped! Iggy remembered Fern glancing at a locked bureau drawer while she was laying down the law to him.

Oh, now he is Sherlock Holmes.

QUOTE
Claude Frollo? Who in the hell is Claude Frollo?
Quatre: Someone isnft a reader.

Sorry to defend the author here but one, not recalling a character from "Hunchback" doesn't really mean that a person doesn't read. Two, even if he read it, would your first association when you read a name on the note be that a literary character that lived in France hundreds of years ago wrote it to your sister, in English?
I actually kind of like this Iggy - he seems removed from stereotypical protagonists so far.

QUOTE
Remus: Define gstylish.h

Flashy, probably.

QUOTE
He remembered his days in Howe's band, and the Boys' Glee Club.
*The men stifle laughter*

*cackles freely, away from the reach of Mac*
Besides, actual Glee Clubs, particularly in the time he went to school, aren't like the show, right?

QUOTE
Sai: And wefre supposed to believe hefs educated?

Never met an "intelectual" gone wild, did you? tongue.gif

QUOTE
Why couldn't I gently tell him that he had traveled over 500 years...

I don't think there is any way to put that gently. nono2.gif

QUOTE
Now, what could possibly go wrong?

You mean, what could go wronger.

Good job, as always.

Oops, forgot to add the reviews tag. My bad, I apologize.

QUOTE

Yeah, except he didn't pursue a career in music...You'll see later on.

QUOTE
Non-American readers: YAWN.

True, I realize that as well. And it is a valid way to set up a character, except one has to consider the audience.

QUOTE
Like you said, this could have been summarised in "he was a rebel with leftist tendencies".

It would've been the broader way to do so.

QUOTE

Two, even if he read it, would your first association when you read a name on the note be that a literary character that lived in France hundreds of years ago wrote it to your sister, in English?

True, I'll admit it wasn't the best joke.

QUOTE
I actually kind of like this Iggy - he seems removed from stereotypical protagonists so far.

Key word being "so far."

QUOTE
Besides, actual Glee Clubs, particularly in the time he went to school, aren't like the show, right?

No. And actually, the "Glee club" in Glee is more accurately a show choir. Glee Clubs are generally another name for regular choirs.

QUOTE
Never met an "intelectual" gone wild, did you?

Oh, I have. Freshman year of college, my Classics of Western Lit course. Told us to have sex in the rain at least once in our life, loved to torture me because I was a devout practicing Catholic, got the jump on him when I was able to explain all the sources for the Old Testament when he thought he had shaken my faith ("Two people wrote the first five books of the Bible. How about that?" "Umm, actually it was four. She forgot the Priestly source and the Deuteronomist source"). Still think he was a crazy man and practically ran out of the final once I turned it in.

But I think the pot definitely did something to Iggy's brains.

Thanks for the review!

Well, so far it hasn't blown my mind, but it's still blown...hard.

QUOTE
Mac: By FrolloFreak. *There is silence.* CrazedWriter?
*The men start yelling*

biggrin.gif I'm starting to think CrazedWriter is a second Angey to your sporkers. I don't blame them.

QUOTE
Erik: Oh look, the story’s pregnant!
Mac: Point Erik.

rotflz.gif Sometimes the simplest comments are the funniest.

QUOTE
well enough to have his own band: Hornets Nest--named in honor of his alma mater, Thomas Carr Howe High.

rotflz.gif Naming your band after your high school mascot? That's the lamest move anyone starting a band could make. How can anyone take that band seriously?

QUOTE
Mac: So he was a rebel?

Brilliant, Mac. CrazedWriter could have just SAID that instead of dropping a lot of obscure '60s references!

QUOTE
Mac: Is he a middle-aged man who apparently has been self-sufficient for a good number of years or a teenager?

I get the feeling not even CrazedWriter knows!

QUOTE
Mac: Are we supposed to like this guy or pray he drives off a cliff?

Who cares: I'd still rather read a story about him than about the sexcapades of Frollo and Danisha the Walking Stereotype.

QUOTE
QUOTE
I also want to properly thank you for introducing me to that charming young lady.

Mac: Oh, so you’ve moved on from Danisha?

Point Mac! A thousand points! biggrin.gif

QUOTE
All: What?
Mac: Like, a smile from a toothpaste ad or a smile made of toothpaste?

Either way, it's not really attractive. If I saw Disney!Frollo smile in a toothpaste ad, I'd resolve then and there to never buy that toothpaste.

QUOTE
Remus: Define “stylish.”

I have some memories of "stylish" 1990s clothes. They're a bit hard to describe, except for the fact that they were hideous. puke.gif

QUOTE
QUOTE
Fern must've been smokin' somethin' other than her Marlboros!

Jareth: Joe Jonas, we wish.

Me too! Then the whole trip to medieval Paris and romance with Frollo would be nothing more than a drug-induced hallucination, and Danisha and Fern would have to go to rehab and maybe a mental hospital...that would actually make a good story!

QUOTE
But his heart nearly broke when he drove past the old high school.

QUOTE
As he walked about the grounds, Iggy felt a tear trickle down his cheek while his mind flooded with memories of the glory days.

wallbash.gif Doesn't ANYONE go to college in these badfics? Do NONE of these fanbrats and fanwomen realize there's life after high school? I'm starting to see why Iggy can't find a job.

QUOTE
Mac: Yeah, why is his nickname of his middle name and not his first name?

I was wondering that too. Honestly, this Iggy defies logic and common sense so much I'm surprised he's still alive.

QUOTE
Sai: And we’re supposed to believe he’s educated?

Well, he's got a high-school education...probably at the same school where Danisha teaches... rolleyes.gif

QUOTE
Erik: Get out of my country!
Remus: He could’ve been in French Canada. *Everyone looks at him* Never mind.

rotflz.gif I loved this exchange. I have no idea why.

QUOTE
QUOTE
Now, what could possibly go wrong?

Erik: I don’t know, but we’re going to have to read it, aren’t we?

You'll probably be safe if only CrazedWriter focuses on Iggy the Ultra-Leftist Hippie Manchild and leaves Frollo and Danisha and Bitchy!Esmeralda and Toddler!Quasimodo out of the story. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen.

Great start, Mac. I can't wait to read more.

She is, in a way.

It was what was going around my mind when I saw it.

QUOTE

I know we're always on CrazedWriter for telling, not showing. But when she tries, it ends up being a trip down her own memory lane that anyone who doesn't know American counter-culture isn't going to understand it. Saying he was a rebel and then maybe adding a few of those references would've been better.

I think it's a problem with what all writers are told at some point in their writing careers: "Write what you know." And sometimes, this works--former cops or lawyers who end up writing the best mysteries, for example. But they are taking their knowledge of something broad and already interesting to apply it to a book. A lot of writers take it to write their past, their hometown, etc. And I think CrazedWriter does that to the extreme, alienating anyone who isn't just checking in for sexy Frollo.

QUOTE
I have some memories of "stylish" 1990s clothes. They're a bit hard to describe, except for the fact that they were hideous.

Especially as the styles of the early 90s were different from the late 90s.

QUOTE

It would. Too bad we won't get it.

QUOTE

Wait, wait. Iggy did go to college, but that's for later chapters.

QUOTE

Well, I've seen no sign of Bitchy!Esmeralda yet.

Thanks for the review!

Regarding Iggy's use of his middle name, I can accept it. I know people who use their middle names. However, they have a reason for doing so. For example, my grandfather worked with several men who shared his first name. To make things easier for his coworkers, he started to go by his middle name. My grandmother, who worked with him, didn't know it wasn't his first name until he brought her home to meet his family. But so far, from what I've MSTed, one is never given. And it could be solved easily. Frollo later on prefers to call him Daniel. We could have an exchange like this:

"Thank you, Daniel," Frollo said.

Iggy smiled. "Iggy, please. Everytime I hear 'Daniel,' I keep looking for my father!" He laughed.

Just something.

CrazedWriter: But "Daniel" isn't cool! "Iggy" is way cooler and it's stage name of this cool and edgy and wild rocker! My Iggy's just like him, a rebel, except that he does not do that many drugs, 'cause that's just gross, and he didn't go to make international career 'cause then I couldn't bring him into plot!

Okay, I might be reading into it too much, but the age does fit, and so do a couple of details.

The only thing prevented me from agreeing that Iggy is based on Iggy Pop is the fact that we learn that music is not Iggy's first love. In fact, it gets forgotten entirely when we learn what Iggy was really studying in college.

Nostalgia Chick's Top Ten List of Hottest Animated Guys

Please note number 10. And Lindsay's facial expressions throughout.

And Nella's explanation.

(PS: I voted in this poll for Twitter. I said Prince Derek from "The Swan Princess." What? The guy may put his foot in his mouth, but who doesn't do that every now and then? At least he tried to make up for it.)

(That and I LOVE Howard McGillan's voice. He was the Phantom when I saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway)

Twenty-one. You'll meet a few of them in this story.

QUOTE
Wait, wait. Her mother agrees?
But then again...as long as she is ignorant of his cruelty, and existence of other FSMs, I can see why...He might not be pretty, but he has position.

In another century. Yes, Mommy and Daddy know that Frollo is from the 15th century.

QUOTE
(Sorry, could never find patience to listen to audio MST. Do you knwo if anyone did the text-form?)

Do you mean if anyone did a text MST of the first story? Not that I know of. I'd do it, but I'm afraid I'd copy some of the Fanfiction Critic's jokes. Maybe someone else will want to do it...

But I seriously think FrolloFreak thinks these stories acutally happened.

QUOTE
Unless she used store-bought base, no way she could do it fast - to say nothing of cooling it or preparing strawberries.

Or she made it earlier. I mean, yes, FrolloFreak wasn't clear, but it's easily explained that she made it another day.

Though with how often she goes back in time, I'm surprised she holds a job and the house hasn't been foreclosed.

Actually, I'm not sure she HOLDS a job.

QUOTE
Hey, he's with the Guard. You usually direct lost people to police anyway.

Nope. Phoebus resigned from the guard after Esmeralda up and left him after he married her because she's an evil, slutty gypsy. And Phoebus himself is portrayed as a bumbling idiot.

Thanks for the review.

Maybe someone else will want to do it...

Almost tempted to, when I'm done with Angey...but not sure I'm the right person, since I'm not familiar with a lot of cultural references. Of course, there is internet and it could be a good point about writing stuff anyone can understand, but...

I can't remember if there were many cultural references in the story, but the Fanfiction Critic doesn't have her computer read the entire story. If you don't feel comfortable MST-ing it, you don't have to.

"Thank you, Lord
You have brought us
Safe to shore
Be our strength and protection ever more.

Meh, it doesn't seem as bad or as long as I thought. Just not sure - is she completely using Disneyverse, or are there parts from the book? I'm sure Jehan wasn't in the movie...
