I've gotten published in an anthology before, plus I used to write for my local newspaper with all those big people over there. If you read Writer's Digest, they feature agents and "notable debuts" by first-time authors. Sometimes I'm curious and I like to look at the publisher they came from.

PUSH- If you've heard of David Levithan ["Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List" ring a bell? His co-writer was Rachel Cohn], this is his little pet project that launched around 2006, I think. I looked at the site and they sponsor a novel-writing contest for teens. Details are on the website. A lot of the writers were fairly young compared to the average age of writers who got published at PUSH. This is a really refreshing and honest publisher.

-I was published in the Young Writers Literary Journal, a self-published book that is made by members of The Young Writers Society. It's their first book, and it's filled with a load of talent by specially chosen people [I might not be one of them =P]. I believe the next time they're going to start asking for submissions for the next journal is around November 2008.

Simon Pulse- This is one of the bigger publishers, and to actually get published there you'll need to have an agent, manu., query, etc. But a lot of good books come from there- I should know. I'm on the Pulse IT board, which is just something cool they offer. They send you a book for each month, a new book that we get before other stores do usually, and it's free of shipping and handling and everything. All you have to do is fill out the review that accompanies the book [it's an email]. The books are actually getting better now; some books were okay but I'd say 75% were good books. But good publisher. Likable. ;]

Frodo's Notebook- An online publication that is more elite than it sounds. They publish all genres, literary short story or poems or whatever, but they're really picky. You can call them one of the elitists of online Teen Publications. You don't get paid, but you get the satisfaction of actually getting published in an online zine that doesn't just take all submissions. Read some of the poems and stories on the site. The caliber is really high and they've got some really good writers on that site.

Stand And Voice- A newish online teen writers literary journal that is currently asking for submissions. A good opportunity to get your work out there, because they're being promoted by Teen Ink. Which brings us to...

Teen ink- One of the biggest magazines [in actual size] that I've ever seen. One page is bigger than my face times two. They post everything from nonfiction to fiction, poems to short stories, editorials to EVERYTHING. Some of the poems aren't bad, the fiction is sometimes disappointing. If you sign up for this board review thing, similar to the Pulse IT thing, they send you free issues and all you have to do is to fill out this survey thing they send you every month about the print publication. If you send in a submission and they accept it, you'll get the satisfaction of seeing your story in print in a magazine widely circulated throughout American and its schools, a free Teen Ink notepad with a wooden pencil, and the issue with your story/poem/whatever in it. It's really not a bad magazine, for and by teens anyways.
