Title: BH2 Sourcenext resolution
polveremorta - December 10, 2011 04:26 PM (GMT)
Is there any way to improve the resolution of the game? As it seems there's no popping-up panel when you start the executable like the eu version..
I've been trying to puzzle with my graphic card settings but doesn't change a thing.

The SourceNext Version was a pretty poor fix of the old Win 98 version.
They force all cards to use a single card type (which when I tried using it, caused tons of issues, like random yellowyness) and they kept the original 320x240 or 640x480 resolution modes.
Unfortunately, these are the current limits for the engine, until someone can rewrite the executable to accept larger resolutions.

The normal version had a control Menu right ?
sad that they removed it :/ , but i still find the source next version good ... the only thing is that it lacks the control menu ..... Also they should have gave it bigger BGs but Uh well its just a source next re-release ....

Has anyone ever tried to "reimplant" the ResidentEvil2.exe of the Win98 version into the SN release? Probably by changing the pointed name of the executable it refers to when clicking the "Play Game" button? This is just a wild guess though, I don't know if anything like this is even possible, I don't have enough experience with the SN release regarding the start-up process.

I fear by now that this alone wouldn't do it. I need to do more research, before I say anything stupid, but what I've found out some time ago points to the fact that there'll be much more rewriting needed in the end once we force Resident Evil 2 to accept let's say 1024x768 BGs e.g.

Actually i remember I had the european version of residentevil 2 for win98 and I think i was able to set at least 800x600. Getting a version that is not sourcenext will allow me better res? even a tool to strech the windowed mode would be good to mantain a certain level of visual quality, or at least better than the 640x480 fullscreen.

i think biofat has a feature like that. i remember reading about it, but i never tried it.
backgrounds will look like shit no matter what if you were trying to make them look better. they are 320x240 on every pc version.

It does... the feature is integrated into 'Mad Experiment' and is applied in real-time, while the game is running. Currently, only 320x240 and 640x480 is supported.
Unfortunately, the engine uses decimal multipliers for ratio. 640x480 (2.0) is default, where 320x240 = 1.0
Even more unfortunate, nth values aren't accepted (2.5, for example), and will cause the game to round down/up to a fixed-point value (2.0).
That said, the engine doesn't accept custom values (720x480, for example), that I know of. Doing so would require a huge rewrite of several different chunks of code.

So where's this biofat and what was supposed to do more precisely?

Quoting this old reply because I managed to do it, but it still wont effect the resolution sadly.
though I can get the normal Executables to work on the SourceNext Version at least :(

I am using a laptop, do you think the full-screen will stretch better on a desktop monitor?

Yes, from what I know, when I was using a Desktop it use to stretch the whole scene, but on a laptop its usually 4:3 (Standard TV Size) ...
polveremorta - April 13, 2013 06:32 PM (GMT)
So, if I plug a vga monitor in my laptop it will stretch better or it will just replay the 4:3 on it?
