Title: How to install skin mods for RE2

zombieslayer21 - September 20, 2010 11:14 PM (GMT)
Could somebody tell me how to install skin mods for RE2 please. i'm using windows 7.
I replace the appropiate PLD file for RPD Leon but when i start the game there is no change it's still RPD leon. please help it's driving me nuts :angry:

Maybe you renamed the wrong RPD Leon or forgot to rename the tim file as well? If you did that, here's a short compilation on what I've found, because I probably overlooked it here, but I couldn't find any beginner guides on how to change RE2 skins, that I could link to (too tired maybe).

Using some of kevstah2004's tips from over at the-horror forums:

Just a little helper if you plan to mod re2 on the pc all files are interchangeable apart from sherry's it's kinda strange Chris has both a Extreme Battle Mode model & in-game model when he's only available in Extreme Battle Mode.

PL00.PLD = Default RPD Leon Costume
PL00CH.PLD = Default Leon Costume: Extreme Battle Mode
PL01.PLD = Default Claire Costume
PL01CH.PLD = Default Claire Costume: Extreme Battle Mode
PL02.PLD = Default RPD Leon Costume + Sidepack
PL03.PLD = Default Claire Costume + Sidepack
PL04.PLD = Default RPD Leon Costume "Bandaged"
PL05.PLD = Claire Black Top Costume
PL06.PLD = Default RPD Leon Costume "Bandaged" + Sidepack
PL07.PLD = Claire Black Top Costume + Sidepack
PL08.PLD = Leon Army Costume
PL09.PLD = Claire Western Costume
PL0A.PLD = Leon Biker Costume
PL0B.PLD = Chris Redfield

PL0C.PLD = Hunk
PL0D.PLD = Tofu
PL0E.PLD = Ada
PL0ECH.PLD = Ada Extreme Battle Mode

Hope it helps, otherwise use the Safehouse Mod Manual, that can be downloaded on this forum here, iirc that covers Resident Evil skin modding 1-3.

EDIT: Here's one more guide from Rusty's RE2 Pack

Installation method:
Rename the .PLD to the file you want to replace.(PL00 for example)Place one of the new .PLDs into your "Resident Evil2/PLO/PLD" or "Resident Evil2/PL1/PLD" folder and that's about it.
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL FILES JUST INCASE!

Didn't help me, I have tried 2 Claire skin mods but neither work, I wonder If I uninstall the files the the GFX installer installed would help, As I have the No-CD version

Whatsamatta - May 21, 2011 10:08 PM (GMT)
How does the No CD version work?
I don't mean this as a 'haha pirate' post, I just mean do you know where it's taking the files from? Is there actually a CD image on your computer or is the EXE cracked to not check if you have the CD or what?

Also, do you have any files anywhere else named PL01.pld or whatever you're trying to change? Because I know that in my game, for instance, if I have a file called PL01.pld in the main RE2 directory, it will load that file instead of the PL01.pld I have in the RE2/Pl1/pld directory.

ArkT - May 21, 2011 11:41 PM (GMT)
The No CD version is cracked to not have to use the CD version, All the files room and other data are already installed and all you have to do is exctract the archive, but the game won't run unless you configure the setup exe (GFX setup.EXE or RESIDENT EVIL2.EXE) and install the pl1, common and pl0 folders in the same directory as the save files. I have tried uninstalling these files and deleting them period, but the re-skinning still will not work, I have tried 3 skins (The white jacket and jeans and the pink tank-top skins, and the Rebecca ROS skin.)

I DO have the CD version of RE2 installed on my computer, I use Daemon tools to mount (Although I never use it anymore) And I have a faulty/corrupted RE2 No CD RAR archive.

So, if I'm understanding right, it has copies of the game content folders in the save folder? Have you tried copying the pld files to -those- folders in addition to the regular ones? If it's taking the data from your hard drive somewhere and not any ISO at all, then I don't see how it could keep using the original files that no longer exist.

ArkT - May 22, 2011 03:47 AM (GMT)
You almost got it, But no. It is in a separate Resident Evil 2 folder. I'll try this though, thanks :D
