When I was a kid of about 5 or 6, I saw this sf horror film on tv
that scared the crap out of me. Years later, all I could remember
was that there was a scene in which this guy-- this guy with
stitches around his head like some Frankenstein monster-- sat down
in the living room of this house, and this little girl, not knowing
that his brain had been tampered with, was trusting enough to show
him her doll... which he promptly tore to pieces. This was
frightening to me as a young age, because he was this trusted sort
of uncle figure and he had been turned into this monster zombie. I
also could recall a scene in which a number of other zombies emerged
from a building and ran amuck (years before NIGHT OF THE LIVING
DEAD, but quite similar in a way). I mentioned these scenes on a
few website months ago, to see if anyone could help me remember the
name of the film, but no one could.
Just the other night, I was looking through a tv guide, and saw a
listing for CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN, a movie, made in 1955, in
which a mad nazi scientist created zombies and unleashed them upon
an unsuspecting community. And it struck a chord... could this be
the movie I've remembered for 45 years and haven't been able to
track down in all this time?
Well, I recorded it off TCM... and it is indeed the sf horror flick
that left such a dreaded impression 4 and a half decades ago. And
it's still pretty darn scary in 2006! The scenes of rampaging
remote controlled zombies remain impressive. Will have to watch
this one again and again, I don't think I'll tire of it too very
soon.
Extremely cool to have finally tracked this down... CREATURE WITH
THE ATOM BRAIN. Check it out, if you get the chance.
Hiya! :) Thanks for posting this, as I missed watching it somehow last Friday, and also somehow deleted it from my hard drive before I had a chance to watch it, but did burn it---yay! And I've sort of been fumbling around, not sure what I wanted to watch tonight, and so I'm popping this one in as I type! :) Looking forward to it! :)
