Title: NAME THE MOVIE
Description: from review
Classic Movie Man - April 15, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
The idea of this game is to name the movie from a quote from a contemporary review :
What movie was reviewed thus ? :
"I have nothing in the world against this movie except that at least half of it seemed to me enormously tiresome." - James Agee

No. James Agee was long dead by then sadly.

No. This may well give it away : it isn't an MGM musical.

Thank Your Lucky Stars ?????
Classic Movie Man - June 20, 2007 08:37 AM (GMT)
No. Another clue this movie represented a comeback for someone involved in it.

A Star Is Born - Garland version ??
Classic Movie Man - June 24, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
No. This will likely give it away : the comeback man only appeared onscreen for about 2 minutes of the movie.

Don't have a copy of James Agee's work available, but I'll guess that the movie in question is: Swanee River (1939).
It's a TC-Fox musical, made during Agee's lifetime, and Al Jolson is the comeback kid, though he is in the movie only for a short time.
Cheers,
Dan

I'm going to guess The Jolson Story. Jolson did all the vocals, but he appears (in longshot) in only one scene.

Correct Midge, well done.
Here is another one. What movie is this reviewer talking about ?
"90 masterly minutes of entrancing light comedy and 25 beastly minutes of beastly,melodramatic,pseudo-tragic guff." - Paul Dehn
