Classic Movie Man - November 10, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
The Classic Action survey is now open for voting.
Simply click on the link below :
http://esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=2069...9f-3c73fd8ca928You will find a list of 100 Classic Action films. Please vote for up to ten of these titles by ticking the appropriate boxes next to the films. If you vote for more than 10 I will only count 10 of the votes. When you are finished clicking the green finished box will return you to the board.
I'll likely bulk email all the members all these surveys soon. I'm hoping for lots of votes as this is totally confidential, you don't need to tell anyone what films you voted for but if you want to please do.

It should be noted, however, that I don't do well in films that exceed 3 hours...and there are several on this list. They are all very good...but I just can't sit that long, and get really antsy after about the 2.5 hour mark.
I *did* miss seeing SERGEANT YORK on this list though. I *adore* that film.

I voted for only six (6) films on this list, the ones that really stirred my soul to watch.
Thankfully, your list went all the way to the 1990s, for in that decade I find the best action film ever made -- in my humble op, of course -- True Lies (1994).
You didn't include 21st century films, and that's probably for the best, since this is a "classics" film board. But if you had, I would have voted for Live Free or Die Hard (2007).
Cheers,
Dan

Wow, I can't believe that you put some of these movies under action. I for one would not consider "Unforgiven" an action film. There are four or five others, and I was just apalled at them being placed under action when they should have been listed under Dramas.
Maybe I am just being nit-picky here, but I think we need to break this all down to era, vote for 10, and then a top three, and then out of approximately 50 films we should be able to come up with 10. But to narrow 100 down to ten, just makes us look like some of these other 'surveys' that we criticize so much.
I really think we need to rething these surveys and do a little more work. I know that I am doing this type of survey on another site, but we are breaking it down to the top ten of each year for each decade, and voting on a top ten. I have done the 30's and am in the middle of the 40s at this time. Sure it is a lot of work, but we will get a more honest survey out of it in the long run.
And it has really stirred up the contributors to the site, and we are seeing people who usually just drop by and look, and now they are back posting again. Something on the same idea as these posts.
I really think we need to have each person contribute what they think was a - Must See, Highly Recommended, and Recommended film of each year starting with 1930.
If you want to do a silent era, that would be fine, but since I don't understand what the big deal is with silent films, I will pass on that.
:tip:

Great idea I'm up for that. Top Ten per year would be very interesting. I'll get thinking about my faves from 1930 etc. Not sure if would generate a huge number of contributions but you could all prove me wrong. Top Ten per decade I think would be just as difficult if not more so that Top Ten comedies, musicals etc

It turns out half of my list is from the 1950s; I'm not sure if that's significant in any way

Destry Rides Again (1939)
The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp (1943)
High Noon (1952)
The Naked Spur (1953)
Bad Day At Black Rock (1955)
The Searchers (1956)
Paths Of Glory (1957)
Ashes And Diamonds (1958)
Patton (1970)
