Title: BERTH MARKS (1929)

Classic Movie Man - November 14, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
Laurel and Hardy's second sound film is much more visual and less dialogue driven than there first. There is however a wonderful audio gag associated with a garbled station announcement.

The majority of the film though concerns Stan and Ollie getting mixed up in one upper berth. This is quite funny initially but does tend to wear out its welcome even in a short film. Overall for me not one of the team's best. The getting mixed up in close quarters routine was used again in a few of the features in different settings. Fox pretty much redid it the same way in one of their notorious 40s features (Great Guns I think). It never was the best routine of the Boys' first time around. (2 out of 5)
