I've been dealt some devastating news today, a friend has told me that she's seen the UK Christmas TV schedules - and she can't see any trace of The Great Escape! This is sacrilige! Please tell me it's not true! Christmas without this is like Easter without eggs!
Forgive me for being blunt Robin, but The Great Escape has been available in region 2 for some time now. Perhaps you could just buy yourself a copy and invite some friend over for the evening? It xould make for a fun time with cocoa and bisquits!

If you live in the UK its definitely on (a week on Sunday I think), yes its become a Yuletide staple. Actually I really like the film and have the DVD.
Years ago I recall the late great Rikki Fulton (most of you probably won't know who I mean) did a sketch as Santa Claus and said the worst thing about the job was missing all the festive TV : "You know," he said, " I'm the only person in the world who hasn't seen The Great Escape." :D
Kevin, I was being sarcastic! In the UK, The Great Escape has been a music hall joke for many years! I have a tape with a recording of a Likely Lads Christmas special from 1974, and in it, Bob Ferris says to his wife,"I don't want to go out on Christmas eve, The Great Escape is on.....or at least it usually is!"
But it really is a great film, I have it on tape - recorded not at Christmas but during the summer - it's just that I can't understand why it nearly always seems to be shown at Christmas.
