Title: Hello, Glad to introduce myself

perfectjazz78 - February 3, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
Hello,

My name is Matthew and am thrilled to find this forum. I have been a fan of the jazz age (1920s and 1930s) since childhood, with this interest manifesting itself in record collecting. I've been collecting records from the 20s and 30s for over 20 years (since age 6).

This jazz age music spurred my interest as a teenager in musical films of the period. The first early musicals I found were Broadway Melody, Footlight Parade and I'm No Angel....from the local public library.

The discovery of early Technicolor with my first viewing of The King of Jazz fascinated me. Since viewing that film, I have been looking for other rare films and have found many through other collectors and the internet. I now have branched out from only musicals and now enjoy pre-code comedy, drama, horror and gangster film. Also I have developed a mild appreciation for a few early 40s musicals as well. Some post 1924 silents intrigue me, as do Alfred Hitchcock films.

The many new DVD releases of pre-war films have been thrilling to me, but there is so much more to be found and released. With that in mind I decided to open a youtube account last year, so that some clips of these unseen films could be rediscovered and appreciated by the public. I hope that the internet brings a renewed interest to these forsaken treasures and a demand for more DVD releases!

These movie and music hobbies compete with my career in Horticulture and Education, but I still find time for everything, somehow !

I hope to contribute to this fine forum in the near future !

Sincerely,
Matt

Welcome to the board Matt! You sound like an extremely interesting person. It was cool of you to share your experience with us as to how you came into appreciating classic films. I guess by your interest in Jazz at 6 years old that you probably have some musical talent? It's very rare for persons so young to be attracted to music let alone Jazz from the 20's and 30's. I too have an interest in music from that period but really did not discover it until my 40's. I can only wish there were more young people like yourself. Again WELCOME!

Kevin

I'm glad you share my interest in Jazz Age music.
Do you know about
Dismuke's Virtual Talking Machine?

It is a great resource for 20s era music, with weekly updates!

Good Evening,
Matt

Welcome to the forum Matt. Golly I can imagine your outrageous stacks of 78s ...

I like the hot-jazz music from those times also. I think if you dig around, you'll find some discussions along those lines buried in these boards awaiting revival ...

Thanks for joining ...

Benji ... :tip:

^ thank ya thank ya ...

I've been collecting the old fan mags for years and years ...

BTW ... I visit Dismukes quite often. I've been trying to find recordings by The Dennis Sisters but just can't. I've only heard their version of "Bashful Baby" from Edison's Attic so far ...

I wish more compact discs would come out featuring obscure acts like that. Some of us would be curious enough to buy them ...
