I was going to post this under an Agatha Christie thread, but as I thought about it, I deduced that other movies may be subject to this topic as well.

What Agatha Christie novels are based on actual events, inspired by them or effected by them, as well as other movies?

I know Murder On The Orient Express seems to be similar to the Lindberg kidnapping.

Mirror Crack'd obviously would have never been written had Gene Tierney not volunteered for that USO tour.

Are there others of her books like this? I would like to see if I could find (either the book or) a movie version of such.

And then I thought about other movies that are 'based on a true story' (which was never applied to the Christie novels, I know).

I guess the most infamous for me, or the silliest, would be Texas Chainsaw Massacre's absurd claim.

The 'true story' was that of ghoul Ed Gein, who never used a chainsaw, wasn't from a murderous family, as far as is known never killed any teen agers and didn't wear the leatherface all the time.

In fact, Gein was a small man, was charged with murdering two women, dug up his other 'victims' and wore the mask to impersonate a woman, not to look menacing.

Believe it or not, the story that inspired Psycho is likewise based on Ed Gein.

I guess I always got a kick out of the little delivery in Mississippi Burning (1987) as well.

"There are two kinds of cultures in Mississippi; a white culture and a colored culture, . . . . . "

This was said by an actual white man (seen in Eyes On The Prize), but he wasn't delivering it to say the races were different, he was saying it to emphasize that the two races existed in the south, but had been apart.

He seems to actually be trying to understand what was wrong or that the segregated teaching was wrong, but his words are delivered in MS Burning as tho the speaker is saying the races should be segregated.

I've always thought that different interpretation was amusing in its ficticious way.
