Confusing film but worth the effort to see gorgeous Louise Brooks in her least known European film.

The copy I saw was apparently a re-released version that was dubbed (badly) and had sound effects. Originally it was a silent film (I think).

Brooks plays a stenographer who dreams of a better life. She's in love with a linotype guy who works at the same newspaper. By chance she enters a beauty contest and wins the Miss France title. She then gets to compete for Miss Europe and maybe a film career. The problem is the boy friends----he's jealous and afraid of losing her.....

The ending is just stunning and beautifully shot. Truly memorable......
