RULES.
you’d better read them
or we will come after you
with a damn knife
we promise you all this
APPLYING.
NOTICE We are currently not accepting any non-canon pure bloods. The Blacks and several Death Eaters and the likes of the Prewetts and Weasleys will be accepted, but any other character noted as a 'pure blood' will be rejected or put on hold!1. Follow the template. No, seriously. Don't leave things blank. Don't alter the coding, don't change the lyrics on it. Fill in the blank. Sweet and simple.
2. Actually take the time to fill things in. Don't get cheeky. "He couldn't possibly know what he wants, it changes day to day!" for Mirror of Erised is not going to cut it.
3. Show off. Seriously, it is an application, you are trying to impress us. You want to showcase yourself at your best, not a half-assed attempt.
4. Make your character relevant. No "American at Hogwarts". If you try, you had better be a damn good writer and extraordinarily good at character development to pull it off.
5. Your characters should be real. No one is universally liked, everyone has their flaws. I don't want to see a character that's 'practically perfect in every way'!
6. This site is a literate &up forum. Be prepared to be held to a high standard. A relatively good grasp at punctuation and grammar accompanied with an affinity for detail, and a diverse vocabulary is looked for.
7. If there is a character you really want, but is already a member here, tough luck. Find another. **See 13**
8. Roses In Hand is a canon only site, we do have a canon list, you should be able to pick a character from that list. The admin are, however, very flexible and we admit to being imperfect. If we're missing a character, or if you'd like to made adaptations on house and age, we're typically very flexible.
9. Better known canons such as the Marauders, Lily and Severus will be held to a higher standard than the more obscure ones. Because we know more about the character, you have to be able to flesh it out for us.
10. In the process of applying if your character coincides with a member that's already been accepted (I.E. Bellatrix and Narcissa) make certain your history corroborates with theirs.
11. You have a three day time frame from the point which you 'register' to the point where your application should be completed. You can complete your application before you register, or you can register and do it bit by bit-it's your choice, but it should be finished by three days.
-If you have trouble with that, or unexpected dilemmas occur, you are welcome to apply for an extended period of time (We'll give you an extra three days) to finish it.
12. You can apply as a character once. If you're denied, you can retry the application-and if you're denied, you can no longer attempt to apply with that character. However, you are welcome to try out with a different character. (You can ask admin for character recommendations, who we think you might have an affinity for. An example is, if someone applied as a Peter Pettigrew who was in fact, a super intelligent individual, and was denied twice based on the fact that it really isn't true to character-we could point you in the direction of a Ravenclaw, such as Gideon Prewett or the Boneses.)
13. If there is an application in process of a character you're interested in, you can register and apply as that character. If we have two of the same characters registered, we will wait until the three day period has passed (or the application has been completed within a timely extension) and either one of the applications won't be finished in time, or we'll have two completed applications. The admin will pick who we believe, is the best character. However, we do reccomend that instead of trying to compete with someone else for the character that you find another character you have an affinity for.
the Format of Application is first name, middle initial(period) and last name.
example:
lily m. evans ; evan o. rosier ; alice v. meadows ; dorcas k. meadows - no caps, please!
ROLEPLAYING.
1. RIH is a literate site, it is an advanced site. It is depicting an unsavory era in Wizarding history. It might not all be fluffy bunnies and rainbows. Be prepared for mature situations such as death, abuse or verbal arguments.
2. There are no limits to content that can be posted on RIH in character. However, do make it relevant to a plot and do make it more than senseless violence or random sex.
3. The typical "No Godmoding" and "No Powerplaying" stands. No plotting without another member's permission. Do not assume anything-always ask.
4. Plots-long lasting ones and short term-are welcome, and encouraged. Just try to keep things canon.
RIH MEMBER EXPECTATIONS.
1. Once you are accepted, you will remain active. This means one to two posts per week. (And if you're going to be gone, post in the "Absences" thread!)
2. No member can have more than two characters at the current time. If you've got more than that, then
you cannot create any more.3. Advertise! Invisionfree, Blank Pages, Neopets, it is all up for grabs! We do need (and encourage) new members!
4. It is mentioned above, but do maintain a level of literacy. Grammar, punctuation and vocabulary is included in this.
5. Simply because you've been accepted once to RIH does not mean henceforth that any character you attempt to apply with will magically be accepted.
6. RIH is a 'mature' site, but gore for the sake of gore is not permissible. If you want to roleplay with mature themes, have them be viable to a plot or character development.
7. If you are inactive with your characters and attempt to apply as a new one before regaining activity with others, you can either A. give up the attempt and the application or B. forfeit your inactive characters.
8. If you have issues with any of these rules, or have problems IC (or OOC) take it to an admin. We're here to solve problems. Not just site issues, and our issues, but your issues, too. If you think we're being hypocritical or unfair, then talk to us.
Seriously. We
are decent human beings with some compassion.
9. Do
not play the admin against each other. No coming to Cat saying "WELL LISA SAID I COULD DO THIS BUT ELLE WON'T LET ME". We do talk to each other, do keep updated on what's going on. We will find out.
And we will not be happy. Admin!Wrath hammer will come out.
10. We are admin. Yes, we are here to help the site go smoothly and make certain it is an enjoyable experience as possible. That said, we are not your parents. We are not obligated to love you unconditionally. We might even do things you percieve as 'unfair'. Guess what? Tough love, cookie.
11. If you have issues with another member, take it up with them. Don't talk about it behind their back. If you don't think you can resolve it with just the two of you, find an Admin. While many of us may be in high school, it doesn't need to turn into the girls' locker room.
OTHER.
1. If you have any questions, you're welcome to contact any of the admin-Lisa, Allex, Cat or Elle. Their contacts are posted on their character pages (Lily Evans, Alice Meadows, Evan Rosier and Dorcas Meadows).
2. You're also welcome to make free with the cBox. All of our members are very friendly (and up to date on their rabies vaccinations!) and can probably answer your questions just as well as the admin can.
3. You can have more than one character on RIH-many of us do-but don't take more than you can handle. You do need to stay active with the characters you have, already. If you cannot, the admin can, and will, deny your newest application.
4. We do have activity checks. No, they're not regular but they do happen. If you don't show up, you will be deleted. You can reapply, but we aren't reserving your character for you and someone else may take it over.
5. We like to be certain that you read the rules, and so I’m going to ask you to say in bold print at the end of your application that “the sun is overrated”. It’s the only way we can be sure, and it’s nice knowing that you people care enough to read the rules.
6. The admin don't give a damn if you don't like someone-you will respect them, though. No drama, no cattiness, avoid pettiness. IC rivalries are acceptable and even encouraged but don't carry it over out of character.
7. If you have any problems-conflict with activity, issues with your character, issues with other members, you are welcome and
encouraged to take it to the admin and talk to them. If one of them isn't available, you can talk to any of the three left. Or approach whichever one you're most comfortable with. We will do our best to resolve whatever dilemma you have.
8. Check the announcements as often as possible, particularly when there are
new announcements. Be sure to post in the activity check… if you do not post in the time specified, you
will be deleted, and someone else is free to apply for your character. It’s a cutthroat world out there.
