-Name: Arkhais
-Title: Watcher
-Level: Hero
-Race: Unknown (Possessed? Celestial? Possessed Celestial?)
-Sex: Male-ish.
-Description:
Arkhais appears to be a suit of iridescent heavy plate wreathed in blue and white robes. During battle and in certain circumstances wisps of vapor can be seen escaping from between the cracks in the armor. He stands 7 feet, 3 inches tall.
-Skills:
Arkhais’ fighting ability consists of absorbing punishment and returning it in slow, powerful strikes. His loadout of choice is a none-too-speedy Hammer and Tower Shield. He has some magical ability, which mostly consists of fairly powerful psychokinetics (pushing, pulling, and breaking, no fine manipulation). It is unknown whether or not these are the result of magic or some other power. Arkhais’ chief ability is to dispel himself into gaseous form, and slowly reconstruct and regenerate from this state.
Arkhais’ size and appearance also give him a fair intimidation ability.
-History:
Arkhias is old, and not just by human standards.
Some say he has existed since before the Fall. Some say he’s been around since the dawn of existence itself.
He says neither of those times were worth remembering.
Arkhais is a suit of spiritual armor gifted with both intellect and personality. Whether the experiment of some ancient master magician or a demigod exiled to the mortal plane, he has wandered the world for a VERY long time. Scholars and historians have discovered his existence simply by looking at records of ancient battles and times of turmoil. In a hundred places with hundreds of years in between, the same armored figure has been reported skulking on the outskirts, watching the world turn and occasionally stepping in to turn it himself.
Arkhais usually pretends to be a human wearing a heavy suit of armor. In fact, his first move on entering any area is often to challenge locals to a drinking contest (Arkhais will simply fill with alcohol, and considering his shell has room for more than a dozen gallons he inevitably wins every such challenge). After spending any amount of time with this strange suit, however, it becomes incredibly obvious that he is more than mortal. Some who have found him out have attempted to ask him questions; gain knowledge from before the Fall or learn of his past. Each time they come up against a single unfortunate fact. Arkhais is, for all intents and purposes, a complete jerk.
Whether a matter of misanthropy or him legitimately not remembering, Arkhais consistently refuses to divulge information or dedicate himself to any particular cause. He is attracted to two things: important events and magical items. He is drawn to where fate is being decided, even though he doesn’t especially care which way things go. He has also been known to attempt ridiculous and incredibly dangerous feats in exchange for a few magical trinkets (Arkhais’ loves gadgetry, he already has the only weapon and suit of armor he could ever want). Arkhais also has a certain passion for challenges and joining up with the underdog, and has given a few outnumbered armies a fighting chance. Arkhais will also go out of his way to fight against things potentially as or more powerful than him. When defeated, he simply waits and reforms before seeking out the next challenge. Thankfully, he is not known to hold grudges. Should he be victorious, he will often spare his opponent to fight them, a more experienced and capable individual, in the future. Other than that, he shows little regard or care for loss of life, no matter the species or quantity.
Some scholars decry Arkhais as being a demon of some sort; every action he takes and every item he acquires playing a critical part in some sort of fiendish masterplan. Others worship him as a tool of the Gods, a paladin of justice whose always in the right place at the right time. No one knows for sure.
As far as most beings are concerned, Arkhais can be defeated but not destroyed. He is a fickle individual, and could bring great power to whoever could sway his allegiance (even if only for a short time) and great pain to those he decides to oppose...
-Equipment:
Arkhais is his own armor. His suit is massive, reinforced, and terrifying to behold. As Arkhais is hollow, many think he can be worn, combining his powers with those of his bearer. None, however, have told of such an experience firsthand...
His weapon is the Gavel of Timeless Justice, a large and ancient warhammer shrouded in a bluish aura. In his other hand Arkhais clutches a titanic Tower Shield. Both seem to deliver a powerful outward force on impact, sending Arkhais’ opponents flying before him.
Arkhais’ has a number of tiny vaulted compartments on the outside of his armor in which he stores his favorite magical trinkets. What EXACTLY they contain, the Gods only know...even Arkhais himself has forgotten.
