Robani IV: Return to Exile

Robani IC: Fantasy Genre

Ten years ago, Robani first opened. It was a humble board populated by a close knit group of writers that thrived in a fantasy setting. Over the years, the concept has evolved and expanded, more so than anyone ever thought possible. But the basic infrastructure has remained virtually unchanged. This is a basic overview of the city of Robani, its general feel and some things that may help you establish a fantasy character to play in this setting.

The forth planet from the star Ogun is named Kaia. Here, on the desert peninsula continent of Tenbia sits the largest city ever to exist in history: Robani. Surrounded by crumbling walls, reaching farther than the curve of the horizon, and sustained by a rich, potent magic, the city thrives on the will of its inhabitants. Robani has, many times, been at war with the only other viable continent on Kaia, Rynth, and successfully defended itself much to the credit of its permanent emperor, Tomas Ferentti. With Rynth successfully banished to the stars, Robani continues to flourish even to this day.

Completely surrounded by dangerous, tainted wastelands to its immediate south, one would think it would be difficult to sustain a prospering population in Robani. But this is not the case. With the sea to its north and lush forests surrounding the eastern and western borders, Robani possesses a vast wealth of natural resources. Magic certainly not the least of these.

In the center of the Robani sits its crown jewel: The City Proper. Lavish and protected beneath the shadow of the emperor’s palace, the Proper offers schools, high end shops, luxurious manors and a guarded presence. As the Proper thins, we move into the more industrial areas of Robani; houses of the arcane, barracks, workshops and warehouses sit on neat cobblestone streets. Eventually, this spills into the slums, where we find the poorer denizens of the city. Though somewhat maintained, the slums are loaded with taverns, inns, cathouses and parlors of debauchery of every sort. Wicker shacks held up by mortar stolen form the crumbled walls make up stocky residential homes, places where the nights are dangerous.

Beneath Robani, unseen yet interconnected by a series of defunct aqueduct tunnels, is the Underground. Ruled by gangs founded before written history, the Underground is the home of the more unsavory residents of Robani. Black market goods are traded, back-alley surgeons operate and the infamous Tequila Springs fighting arena wait for the marks to turn an Ohm.

Overall, the city of Robani is a culturally diverse amphitheatre for the intrepid, a place where everyone can find a niche.

Appropriate Genres to play in the city of Robani:
High Fantasy
Medieval Fantasy
Steampunk
War lines
V:tM/WW
Clockpunk

No-no's in the city of Robani:
Dieselpunk
Rifts
Gun powder*
Space Travel
Nanotechnology
Sitting in Tomas' throne

*We ask that you do not bring the modern concept of gunpowder into Robani, but we totally allow and encourage you to create a fantastic alternative. Whether this be an explosive compound made from plant roots, ground up fairy bones and horse shit or a magical concoction of alchemical components...well, that's up to you.
