Tri-State Thrall: IC Cyberpunk Genre

The Thrall is the last skeletal remains of the once great United States. After the government collapsed, the wealth of the nation was divided amongst the quiet corporate investors that held the country afloat for decades. The West Coast was sold to Genie Corporation, using their vast resources to rebuild the popular coastal cities and reinvigorate the stagnant economy. As the new land owners, Genie renamed California, Washington and Oregon, IROK: the Independent Republic of Kalifornia. There, they set up their corporate bases, research and development sites and offered to provide to their citizenry everything needed to pursue the long dead American dream. Using their citizens as their constant guinea pigs, Genie has built a brand name known across the world for innovative technology and entertainment products, from nanomachines to designer drugs. Their greatest achievement, The World Soul, replaced the defunct Internet with a living AI communication network which they have disseminated across the planet.

The last remnants of the US government consolidated in the North East forming United Technologies. While their technology is limited to military ordinance and generic products, their hold on the East Coast is guaranteed with their private police force. Some areas in the Tri State Thrall maintain their own police force, called Tinmen but the corporate soldiers turn more profit for UTech than their products and services. Newark, New York and Philadelphia stand as the last major functioning cities, battlegrounds for the thriving crime organizations. The Yakuza, whose ties with Genie Corp offers them a monopoly on the West Coast, constantly battle with the Mafia, Soulpo, Triads and the other smaller organized crime groups for a stranglehold on United Tech’s territory.

The South has been pieced together by the New Confederacy, and while they maintain friendly relations with United Tech (for their ordinance) and Genie Corp (for their technology), they remain separate from the political give and take of the crime bosses. Their borders heavily guarded, they are content with their renewed alcohol, sugar and clone slave trade. The Midwest, after the construction of their great underground network, is irradiated, guaranteeing no one can travel across the once lush heartland. The air is thick with recycled chaff, grounding any travel over the country, the highways still glow with radiation. Underground, the new Midwest, owned and operated solely by Messiah Corp, only offer passage and protection for the travelers crossing from East to West. They retain their angry separatism, defy the use of ‘godless technology’ and refute the rumors that the world wide goblinization stems from their scorching of the lands.
