Knowing that laptops are not ideal for gaming, unless you drop a ton of money on them, and maybe even not then. If you guys were to drop a thousand bucks on a moderate laptop that would be decent to play games on, what would you guys get? i am thinking about getting something when I go home in November just not quit sure what i want to get

i was thinking about this one

http://www.amazon.com/N53SV-A1-15-6-Inch-V...id=7K2D8DM3MQ5O

with this added in

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-DDR3-Laptop-..._bxgy_pc_text_b

looks like you already found a very good notebook. that's a very fair price, too.

however, it would be nice to know how many RAM slots that notebook has and if any are free out of the box. Since it already has 4GB, it might be possible to add another 4GB module and have 8GB. Might save you a little money.

tbh, I doubt the extra RAM will be necessary if you reformat as soon as you get it to remove all the bloatware. that RAM does look like a good deal, though. tongue.gif

it has an extra 2 slots that are free, so if i get that extra ram i would actually have a total of 12gb

removing the bloatware is definitely the first i do once i start it up biggrin.gif

I've never gamed on a notebook so the only thing I could suggest is to make sure you get a video card that's pretty high up the food chain. Good luck Jai! medievalcheers.gif

Hi lam,

I'll chime in as i play on Laptop which happens to be an ASUS as well. My model is the G73Jh. I've had it for about a year and have been very happy with it. No technical issues and it's doubled as my work computer we all.

If you have any specific questions let me know and i'll be happy to chime in.

cheers,
Sala

Not bad J, but the GPU in it does look a bit obsolete - it's a boosted version of an older chip. It should run current games well on medium settings, some OK on high.

Manufacturers aren't very good at updating laptop video chip drivers, so it could be a good idea to get something of a new chip family, that they're likely to support longer.

Wait until Christmas sales? joker.gif

their top line GPUs are currently the 5 series. i don't see a problem with that notebook as it also has the 2nd gen core i7 in it.

Yeah the 5 series is Nvidias' top of the line, although the 540 is the 'budget' GPU of the bunch. Not sure which cards would fit into the laptop though. In any case, budget permitting I'd get one as near to the top as possible.

I don't see a problem with playing on medium settings either. tongue.gif

This is a mobile GT, not a GTX - a mid range chip, not the newest or best thing they have. Just because the release is relatively recent and nVidia called it a "5" doesn't make it top of the line.

So it's cheaper, much weaker and you'll have less heat and can run from the the battery longer than with a "top of the line" GPU.

i am not really expecting to play games on high quality as I am playing on low right now. So playing on medium would be more than good enough.

it also maybe a bit early to start looking for buying in November time frame, i may just wait and see what comes out for the day after thanksgiving sale which is so popular that i normally avoid

most places wont ship to our address out here, plus i dont think i would trust the mail system to here to get it safely
