The basics

Name: Melanie Gabrielle Webb

Nickname: Mel, Webby, Ice Queen, Fiery One

Birtdate (include how old they are in the story): April 27th (24)

Birthplace: Tulsa, Oklahoma

Work/Schooling: University of Oklahoma; Syracuse. Upon entering Syracuse, Melanie underwent her Graduate degree in Socialogy. Her major: Political Socialogy. Minoring in Criminal Socialogy. Her aspiration is to work in a fast paced environment as a psychological profiler.

Family: Webb
Mother: Danielle Webb - deceased
Father: Paul Webb - notorious killer
Siblings: Jason Webb - deceased
Extended Family: Aurelius and Merrick Falke. Aristocratic and less than friendly.

Home: Immediately after graduating school, Melanie left home. She wasn't able to cope with her father's dealings and her mother's death. Wanting to start new, she found a loft in Syracuse, New York.

About the character (paragraph answers will help determine what needs work)

Appearance: Melanie stands at 5'4" tall, though she can normally be seen in chunky boots which boost her up to 5'5" or 6". Her dirty blond hair hangs over her shoulders and was once a very dull black, which was the result of a depressive stage she went through. Her eyes are a coffee brown, highlighted with small, barely visible golden flecks. Her make up habits died down after high school - now she can be seen wearing just a basic foundation and very light lipstick. Her attire is usually more provocative than the average person. But she loves Sundays when she can curl up on a sofa in a pair of sweat pants and tank top.

Quirks: Emotional. Drama Queen. Always takes a bad situation and twists it into the world's worst epic. She walks away from things she doesn't want to deal with and never allows herself to feel too deeply about anything or anyone for fear of losing them as she had lost everyone she ever loved in her past.

Special Skills: Manipulation. Melanie will twist things around in her favor at any opportunity. Her ability to stay unattached, while a quirk, is also a strength she feels she posesses.

Anti-Skills: Relationships - friendship or otherwise. Melanie has a hard time connecting with people for fear of loss. She can be clumsy. Her attitude as an 'Ice Queen' is not exactly the most charming thing in the world and her quick temper is a hard pill to swallow.

Romantic Interests: Xavier Wyse. Old enemies from school. Their romance hasn't blossomed at all, but the tension between them is something more than anger and disdain.

Personality: Although Melanie can be fiery, she has a softer side. It's a side of her that not many - if anyone - have seen. She's sarcastic, witty, and has a knack for reading people. She will never be bubbly and she's most often introverted. She's a rebel, a loner, but loves those friends that she does have dearly. She would do anything for them, unless it restricted where she needed to be in life. She's manipulative and calculating. Her feelings are easily hurt. If she gets into a situation that she can't control, she will turn around and walk away.

Enemies/rivals: Xavier Wyse. In elementary school, they were best friends - near inseperable. But, as they grew up and realized the faults of their parents, they grew apart. Melanie's father was the cause of Xavier's father's death. It was something he never thought he could forgive her for.. and something that Melanie didn't blame him for hating her for. Also, Merrick Falke - her cousin. She can't stand him - they don't get along. Never have and never will. He views her as weak - she views him as a pigheaded prat. :hilary:

Friends: Kaidence McCree, Mason Ackerman and Miranda Diciano (their bios are either made or will be made ;) )

Hobbies: People watching. She likes to study human nature in different environments. She sketches out scenarios, writes a paragraph about the interactions and saves them to peruse when she's bored. She's very into her studies at school - and uses her friends as pawns to see the different aspects of their own social capacities.

Understanding the character

What is his/her goal in life? To understand why her father did the things he did. She was a daddy's girl, until he went to prison. So, now, she wants to know why and how he changed. Other than that, Melanie wants to make an impact on the world with her career. She wants to be known for something more than the small-town Oklahoma girl.

Would the character change for someone they liked? She did once but it didn't work out to her advantage. The relationship ended terribly and she was left more broken than she was before getting involved. So, as of right now - no.

What do they appreciate most in life? Hard work and dedication; taking initiative to get what you want. Melanie appreciates that quality in people and in herself.

What would the character say about himself/herself? "I know what you say about me behind my back, but give me the faintest opportunity to prove you wrong and it will be the last time you ever question me."

What is the purpose of your OC (why are they in the story?)? Melanie is a psychological balance of Kaidence's free spirit - just as she is the devil on the shoulder of Mason.

An actual quote from the story which sums up the character (optional): Melanie stood firmly planted on the outside of her friends' circle, her shallow eyes calculating; if she played the right cards, Xavier would be like putty in her hand once again. If she made one wrong move, Kaidence would no longer be her friend. It came down to what was right and what needed to be done. And the answer was simple enough.

"Nineteen ninety eight," she whispered hoarsly, vanishing from sight.

(This is the 2nd character in the Complicated Hexagon OF Series... Characters still to be posted: Merrick Falke, Miranda Diciano, Mason Ackerman, and Xavier Wyse.)

OMG I so tried to do something similar using Ash, Ryan and some others from PDub. I love Melanie! She is such a well developed character!

Oh! Thanks!! I'm glad you like her! :hilary: She's very fun to write - that's why I'm taking her to Original Fiction. Since I already have her figured out, I guess it'll make her easier to write. :nic:

She's a great character, but I wouldn't want to have her be my best bud! She must be really fun to write.

I think the best thing about writing Melanie (to me) is being able to explore all of the social dysfunctions that she sees in everyone else. :cad: She's one of those people who look inside and see everything that is worth fixing... but looking at other people, she sees everything inside that is worth saving. It's odd - but.... well, I guess that would be her character in a nutshell... aside from selfish and manipulative, of course. :cad:

Who, me or Melanie? :cad:

:lyn: Yes, Melanie's got a little bit of a perfectionist streak about her... takes after her puppet master, I suppose. That's not to say she ever gets to see perfection. :hilary:
