:headdesk:

Seriously. It seems almost blasphemous, anything that I write. Because I can't seem to do it justice.

I feel stupid writing God in English, though I couldn't possibly write it in Latin or Hebrew or anything.

Somehow, I think that I'm screwing up my story by writing God... but God is a major part of the life of Daniel. So, there is no way to avoid it.

I get lucky, though, because I get to write God from Daniel's pov, so it's not so horrible and I have some leeway, of course.

But, even a sentence like this seems out of place:

QUOTE
“Daniel.”

Yeah. Just the ONE. BLOODY. WORD.

:headdesk:

Anyone know what I mean? :P

You could use his Hebrew name - "Yahweh" (I am that I am) or "Yhwh" as a person of Hebrew ancestry and beliefs would spell it due to not saying his name out of respect.

???

Just a suggestion. I do understand your point of feeling totally inadequate to write God. You're a brave woman. :)

I just read the excerpt you posted for a critique, and though he really just names everyone, I think the intimidating-but-possibly-not characterization fits. You're definitely tackling a huge project, writing God, so you'll have a lot to contend with. I like Jessi's idea of using Yahweh instead of simply God, which is a bit too blunt for my taste. But if even one word seems out of place, I think you'll have to let go of whatever religious ideals you have, just to write in peace. Otherwise you'll constantly be trying to find ways to make single words fit :P It would drive me insane. Just trying to wrap my head around the passage was enough to make me kinda confused too :P

Good luck! :chase:

You both are simply fabulous. Jessi, you are a savior for pointing out Yahweh, I definitely think I'll be using that instead. Totally, TOTALLY helpful.

You two rock, like wowzah.

:tahi:

(Gub, I agree that God is too blunt. It's scary, innit? :P) And yes.. abandoning religious beliefs while writing... it's a tough thing to do, but it's for a good cause. Even though they are a bit weird anyway. :lyn:

Well Deus is the Latin for God.

Agnus Dei - The Lamb of God
A Deo et Rege - From God and the King

Does that help? I know this is an old thread, but I thought that if you need another way of saying it, for diversity, you have that.

If you're thinking directly of Jehovah, it's spelt like 'Iehova' in Latin.

Hope that helped. You could just put Jove, another name for Zeus.

<3, Tigga.

That does really help, Tigga! :huggle:

I'm writing this piece for NaNo - so your advice definitely got here in time!

Thank you! ^_^
