I recently went on a play writing course and they taught us a game that helped with writing monologues.

Give yourself 30 seconds to write one word beginning with each letter of the alphabet, using the first words that come into your head. If you get stuck on a letter and a word doesn't come to mind - just skip it. Then write a monologues (or dialogue...or description of a place) using every single word, whilst trying to stay in character.

This will be especially useful with OC's ...but the challenge is...can you get it to work with canon characters?

When you realise you CAN do it...you will feel like you CAN write again...you'll realise that you have it in you. :cad:

Oh, and if you come up with anything interesting...post here!

Wow, that sounds amazing. I'm not blocked at the moment - luckily! - but I might just try it nonetheless. Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful tip! Oh, the possibilities...

I think it'll work for canon characters too. Simply because when you brainstorm these words, you already know what you're going to need them for. Yes, I know you're writing down the very first thing that springs to mind, but still, your subconscience will be biased. Just my theory... we'll see if it works.

I tried that last night when I couldn't fall asleep and it worked! It helped me a lot with my OC and actually helped me define her more. The dialouge I wrote for it is a little weird with all the different words and stuff but it was still fun. Thanks for the tip!

Hehe! In an OF play that I'm writing I had to write a speech by the leader of a revolution. In the speech I had to include words like 'cat' and 'gnome' and 'emu'! This was because we had all write words and swap them! Try it with a friend's words and it will really force you to think!

Oh wow, that sounds marvellous! I'll definitely try it soon - and post my results if you wouldn't mind the horror that it may very well be. *grins*

So do we choose any character, or do we just go with whoever suits the words best?
