My favorite thing to write is poetry, and for lots of SAYers, it's pretty fun, heartbreaking, masterpiece-ful....you get the point.
Why not have a prompt for poems like we do for drabbles? I love poetry, but sometimes I just don't know what to write.
Poetry prompts will give us new things to look at in different ways. It'll make us more creative and give SAYers something else to procrastinate big writing projects with. Or, it can help an all the poetry writer get better.
Really, it'll help everyone get better. :P Soooo...*bats eyelashes* Let us do itttt! lol
But, anyway, I LOVE the idea. I'm all for it! There really are a lot of poets among SAYS-ers, and prompts are always an excellent way to bring some inspiration. :jessi:
So, yeah, I think it's a great idea, if the admins think it can be done. :)^:D
If the admins don't want to create a separate chain of posts for this, they could even expand the drabble prompts to allow poetry in them too, don't you think? That way someone could enter a drabble OR a poem (or both) to the same thread.

Moved to the suggestion box. :)
Wonderful idea! Now, this is just me thinking aloud, but would you poets prefer prompts like the drabbles - a single word to send you off? Or maybe a few different kinds of prompts? In a creative writing class I took last year we did some poem "sketching," in which we were given four words and had to incorporate them into a poem. We did a variety of different prompts, but that's the one I remember off the top of my head. Anyway: single word, all different prompts, mix? Any opinions?
Hm... I guess a one-word prompt is great, and I really do want variety, so maybe there could be different kinds of prompts... like, if the idea/mood is given, or some words are given, or the first and last lines are given, or if we have to elaborate on a song or picture, and so on.
Yeap, variety is good I think, but that's just my opinion..
One way would be if that addition or update is in the drabble section, or a separate forum in the poetry section. And maybe even have a topic for suggestions for prompts by the poets, and stuff. Much can be done with this, really. ^_^
:nic: I LOVE the prompt, the resulting poems, and the inspiration I got!!!
Thank YOU, Jessi!!! :huggle: I dare say the prompts will be a success! Just look at the wonderful results!! I mean, I had never imagined a prompt would actually get me out of my poet's block, but this prompt alone gave me inspiration not for one, but 8 poems!!!
It's awesome how hopping it already is, and that several people who don't normally write poetry (as they've oh-so-frankly told us :cad: ) gave it a shot, regardless. So far, all of the replies are great!
My only wish is that it could be more often than once-a-week :cad:
SUGGESTION: So... I was thinking. What about having a separate topic, in which everyone would post their feedback, instead of in between the actual poems? More orderly that way, I think. :)
And if anyone is up to it, we can even make mini-competitions at some point with the poems. For example, it would be only one prompt each week, and then each month, or in a few months, every poet can pick their most favorite poem from all the weeks, and enter it. Then voting will ensue. If you think it's a good idea, that is. :)
So there would be another topic/forum for the competitions. I am even thinking about something like 'your best piece' with people posting their best, and then making polls with the best pieces, where everyone votes (not for their own, though :cad:).
Is this too much? I just think it would be fun, seeing as there is interest in the prompts. :jessi: But we can see how it goes..

The separate thread is a good idea - definitely. We'll start that with the next prompt. :cad:
As for the competition things... let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's make sure that the idea sticks for at least a few more prompts and then see what we'll do. :)
