Scarecrows(Posted Image)
Like other flowers, scarecrows help protect your crops. Once you reach level 20, you have the ability to plant sweet corn. Once you begin to plant corn, you'll notice that it pesky birds keep eating it before you have a chance to harvest! That's where the scarecrow comes into play! Scarecrows occupy flower patches. These can be found near atollments (in variety farming patches) These will help protect your corn from those birds.
To build a scarecrow, you must first have level 23 farming. Next you should get a sack by either crafting or buying from a farming shop. Fill the sack with straw by "using" it with a square bale of hay(Posted Image). Then, get a bronze spear. To get this, you must either buy one, or kill goblins. Use the spear with the sack of hay(Posted Image). Now you must get a watermelon. You must either buy one from a player or the shop or grow one with 43 farming. Use it with the sack that was pierced by the spear.(Posted Image)
Now your ready to set up the scarecrow in your flower patch!

Tools and Compost
(Posted Image)Watercan: Used to water your seeds and helps them be healthier.
(Posted Image)Spade: Not made for only farming, but used to harvest your crops. Also used to get rid of dead plants.
(Posted Image)Seed Dibber: You must have this in your inventory to plant seeds
(Posted Image)Gardening Boots: Add +1 to farming.
(Posted Image)Rake: Used to clean up weeds to you can lay compost and plant
(Posted Image)Secateurs: Used to cure bushes and trees from disease.
(Posted Image)Gardening Trowel: Used to take saplings out of pots to put in a tree patch.
(Posted Image)Compost: Used before you plant to treat the ground.

Planting
First take a bucket of compost, you can make your own(see Compost) or buy some at a farming store. Use the bucket of compost on the place you wish to plant, then water that spot. Make sure you have your seed dibber in your inventory and use the seed with the spot. Use the seed with a spot in the patch and the patch will fill up, you've just planted seeds!

Tree Planting
To plant trees you must buy a plant pot, make sure you have a garden trowel too, and a watercan to water your seed. Use the seed with the pot to create a Seeding, water it, after it grows into a sapling plant it in a tree patch.

Harvesting
Regular Harvesting
This is quite easy, just have a spade in your inventory and choose the Harvest option.
Herb Picking
Just choose the Pick Herbs option, simple.
Trees
Check the health and chop it down, it will respwan to clear it out use a spade on the stump.
Bushes
Check the health, if its healthy pick the berries, to clewar it use a spade to dig it out.
Dead Plants(regular harvesting)
Just use a spade on the dead crop, and the patch is ready for replanting.

Compost(Posted Image)
Compost can be made by using weeds, plants and others things (like your crops). Just take an organic item and use it on the compost bin, it can take a fair amount of time to rot, so if you plan to plant crops immediately then you should probably just buy some compost from the farming shops located around runescape! After you filled the compost bin up, close it and wait, when it is finsihed open it up and use as many buckets with it as you need (until it's empty of course). This can be used to treat your ground. NEVER use tomatoes to make compost, it will not make compost, ust rotton tomatoes.
Super Compost
To see if an item makes super compost use it with a farmer and they will tell you. Here is a list of what can be used to make super compost(not done):
Pineapples

Disease
Plants can get diseased. The best thing to do is see if your crop has flower protection(see above) and plant flowers to help. To cure disease buy a cure(Posted Image). You can buy them from the farmer walking around your crops, or from a farming store. To cure trees or bushes use your secateurs. If your crops are diseased you cannot get a farmer to take care of them! Laying down compost can decrease the risk of disease.

Farmer Assistance
Different Farmers ask for different things. You will not need to do anything to these crops until they are ready to be harvested. Sometimes you will need baskets or sacks, these can be bought at farming stores. Sacks hold 10 each, and baskets hold 5 each.
This is the chart for paying farmers:
1 Sack Of Potatoes- Crops here(I forgot them)
1 Sack Of Onions- Cabbage, Arsgarnian Hops
4 Sacks Of Cabbage- Redberrybush
2 Buckets Of Compost- Potatoes
2 Sacks Of Cabbage- Tomatoes
Basket Of Tomatoes- Oak Tree
Basket Of Apples- Willow Tree
3 Baskets of Tomatoes- Cadavaberry Bushes
10 Jute Fibres- Sweetcorn

Plant Use
Hops- Hops can be used is brewing, which is making ales or cider.Breweries are found in Keldagrim and Port Phasmatys, you need the main ingrediants(most of the time hops), 4 buckets of water, 2 handfuls of barley malt(barley roasted on a range)., and a pot of ale yeast.(can be bought from brewers)
Jute Fibers- Jute fibers can be used to make sacks, in which to carry crops, and saving inventory space.
Willow Branches(cut young branches from player-grown willow trees with a pair of secateurs)- Used to make fruit baskets.

Farming Random Events
Capt' Arnav- If you fail you will end up in a random place.

-"Umm I'm having.. a good time.......not. WAYNE!! "
-"Aren't You going to open your Anniversary Present Wayne?"" If it's a severed head I'm going to be very dissapointed."
-"A Gun Rack?"" What am I Going to do with a gun rack?"" I don't even have A gun, never the less many guns that would neccesitate an entire rack!!"" You don't like it?"" Fine, You know Wayne, if your not careful your going to lose me."" I lost you two months ago! Are you mental? Get the net!!!"

I have a nice tip for you if you want more experience while waiting for your crops to grow. If you are in the building north of Port Sarim I suggest you plant some vegetables (potatoes or something) on the 2 Vegetable Patches. Next, take your rake and weed the herb and flower patches, each weed gives you 4 exp.
