Many of these potions can be found in the Harry Potter books. However, in the Harry Potter Books many don't have ingredients listed for them. We will be creating our own ingredients for each potion. Also, you may find potions on this list that are not in the Harry Potter books, but are for Roleplay purpouses.



Aging Potion
Ingredients: unknown
Effect: Causes the person drinking it to grow older. The more Aging Potion one drinks, the more one ages.


Amortentia
Ingredients: unknown (but see love potion)
Effect: The most powerful love potion in the world; see love potion for discussion of effects.
Recognizable by its distinctive mother-of-pearl sheen and by the fact that its steam rises in characteristic spirals. The potion smells differently to different people according to what attracts them


Antidotes
Ingredients: vary, but often include mandrakes
There are antidotes for many poisons and for potions effects.


Babbling Beverage
Ingredients: unknown
Causes a person to talk nonsense.


Beautifying Potions / Beautification Potion
Ingredients: unknown
Potions to make the drinker more lovely in appearance.


Blood-Replenishing Potion
Ingredients: unknown
Potion to make up for lost blood.


Boil Cure Potion
Ingredients: dried nettles, crushed snake fangs, stewed horned slugs, porcupine quills (added after taking the cauldron off the fire)
Simple potion to cure boils.


Bruise-healing Paste
Medical magic: this is a thick yellow paste used to heal bruises.


Burn-healing Paste
Medical magic: this is an orange paste is used to heal burns.


Confusing Concoction
Ingredients: unknown
Effect is to cause confusion.


Deflating Draught
Ingredients: unknown
Antidote to Swelling Solution


Cough Potion
Medical magic: unknown, but presumably treats a cough.


Doxycide
Ingredients: unknown
Black liquid, usually delivered by spray bottle, used to knock out Doxies so they can be safely disposed of. The effects last quite a long time.


Draught of the Living Death
Ingredients: asphodel in an infusion of wormwood; valerian roots, sopophorous bean
Effect: Causes someone to fall into a deep sleep.


Draught of Peace
Ingredients: includes powdered moonstone and syrup of hellebore
Effect: calms anxiety and soothe agitation


Forgetfulness Potion
Ingredients: unknown
Effect: Makes drinker forgetful


Felix Felicis
Ingredients: unknown
Effects: Until the effects wear off, all the drinker's endeavours will tend to succeed. However, if taken in excess the potion causes giddiness, recklessness, and dangerous overconfidence, and it is highly toxic in large quantities.


Garrotting Gas
Ingredients: unknown
Invisible gas which apparently knocks people unconscious.


Gregory's Unctuous Unction
Ingredients: unknown
Effect: persuades the drinker that the giver is their very best friend


Love Potion
Ingredients: include frozen Ashwinder eggs
Effect: Does not really causes the person who drinks it to fall in love with someone, as it is impossible to manufacture or imitate love. A love potion simply causes the drinker to develop a powerful infatuation or obsession with the target.


Mandrake Restorative Draft
Ingredients: include Mandrake, of course
This powerful antidote will revive people who have been Petrified.


Murtlap Essence
Ingredients: A solution of strained and pickled Murtlap tentacles, yellow in color.
Effects: Soothes and heals cuts and other wounds.


Polyjuice Potion
Ingredients: lacewing flies stewed 21 days, leeches, powdered bicorn horn, knotgrass, fluxweed picked at full moon, boomslang skin, a bit of who one wants to turn into
Effect: Transforms a person to look exactly like someone else. One dose lasts for one hour, but doses can be renewed, apparently indefinitely.


Shrinking Solution
Ingredients: chopped daisy roots, skinned shrivelfig, sliced caterpillar, one rat spleen, dash of leech juice
Effect: Makes things shrink in size


Skele-Gro
Medical magic: Potion which regrows bones. The effect takes about eight hours and can be quite painful.


Sleeping Draft/Draught/Potion
Ingredients: unknown
Effect: causes the drinker to fall into a deep sleep


Swelling Solution
Ingredients: puffer-fish eyes
Causes something to get bigger.


Truth Potion/Serum
Ingredients: can include Jobberknoll feathers
Forces a person to tell the truth.


Veritaserum
Ingredients: unknowon
The most powerful Truth Serum available, this colourless, odorless potion forces the drinker to tell the truth


Wit-Sharpening Potion
Ingredients: ground scarab beetle, cut up ginger root, armadillo bile
Effect is presumably to make a person think more clearly.


Wolfsbane Potion
Ingredients: unknown
Effects: While this potion can't cure lycanthropy, it does prevent the extremely dangerous dementia which accompanies the transformation from human into werewolf.
