The County League has been dissolved and all clubs have gone over to the new league.

Sad to see "Shropshire" being dropped from the name. Mercia covers a much wider area, so I'm not sure if they're expecting lots of clubs to join from outside the county.

Step 7 possible for the highest division?

Interesting - Oswestry the odd one out there, the rest all being from the East of the county!

So the Premier and First divisions from the County League will become the Premier and First divisions of the Mercian League?

Any news on West Midlands League teams joining the Mercian? And what about Whitchurch?

Good league...im only a player for Oakengates but yet again, another season ahead of hard tough games, outside the local area. I bet there's some right strong, solid teams about...

With this being league 2 (which seems to be pretty much Combination and new teams), I would guess that it will be 3 leagues in total?

From what I have heard on grapevine, the intention is that it will only be for Shropshire teams (think JJ mentioned somewhere on here that FA don't let new league form using counties in name??) and that no West Mids teams will be joining.

No idea about Whitchurch though.

i play for bada bing on a sunday, and oakengates on a sat!

Maybe it is Edgmond from the sunday league (same division as bada last year)?! transferring over...

either way, it's gonna be a good league this year

Donny & Oswestry will be two tough teams that's for sure. But, still heck of a long way before season starts. See who signs who..INTERESTING!!!!

It's ridiculous really: if it's not going to cover a wider area than Shropshire why "Mercian" and why "Regional"??

And why didn't they just expand the 62 year old County League?!

Seems all a bit silly.

I believe it is all to do with trying to regain step 7 status for the benefit of shropshire football as a whole.

Hopefully this can be achieved which in turn should help improve every aspect of football within the shropshire area.

the old county league system had gone stale , along with the smaller leagues ( telford comb, shropshire alliance) you now have all teams playing under the mercian league system, better control, should be more proffessionaly run like the county league was some 15 years ago.

I am sure our friend statto will be able to shed light on this.

The Shropshire Alliance had folded and its teams joined the County League - the same could have happened with the Telford Combination.

Why was there the need to dissolve the County League?

I could understand it if the desire is to expand its coverage to beyond Shropshire.

But just to gain Step 7 status?! Surely the County League itself could have done that.

Seems all very odd to me.

And then the other big question is: if the Mercian is placed at Step 7, what will Haughmond, Newport Town, etc, do? Leave the West Mids League and join the Mercian?

Wonder where Rock Rovers (County first) would be placed? The whole thing sounds stupid to be honest.......Is there really any need to change anything?
