Africa, one of the many places where tribes still existed and animals were known to roam the terrain, including a rare few species that would not be found on other continents. After a long few hours of flight a lone peregrine falcon touched down, making sure to be hidden by taller grass before it slowly began to shift back into the form of a human female, the ability she faintly had a feeling would be recognized one day by both organizations. She had began to learn more about each side but was still quite uncertain about it all, knowing well enough if she picked one side over the other it would mean conflict.. and conflict was something she detested at the time. It was the one thing that caused death, especially the death of her parents.
Lightly pushing herself fully onto her feet from her former crouching position the shapeshifter gazed around with her amber eyes, trying to spot out an animal of interest until it landed on something stalking in the grass in her general direction. Right before it pounced at where she was thinking the bird was still there and not quite spotting her she pulled out a small gun loaded with small tranquilizers, carefully aiming the shot just as the creature came into her scope. The cheetah which she hit was dazed for a moment, trying to flee before it slowly submitted to the temporary sleep, allowing her to approach it safely.
Crouching down next to the creature she pulled out a pair of scisscors after carefully putting the gun down at her feet, cutting off the ends of the cheetahs fur into a small pile in her left hand. After she had a good pile, she carefully pulled out a spare vial on her belt, storing the fur in there before replacing it back where it belonged and removing the dart from the feline. This was something she did every once and a while, glad to of gotten her wildlife licenses when she was younger so she wouldn't hurt the animals she would like to one day possibly shift into. The cheetah would be an excellent animal for gaining a good distance between someone who might want to hunt her and herself before she shifted into a bird form to fly away.
Picking up the gun she strapped it back onto her belt, carefully walking into the flatlands while playing with some of the fur in her hand. It was interesting how many people wished they could become a certain animal or want to talk to them when they were little, yet she was able to do both in a sense. Yes, it was her dream too at one point, but it became true the one time she really wished for it by pure chance, which always threw her off. Why couldn't she just be normal so she didn't have to deal with all these 'superpowers' wanting to hunt her down and possibly try to convince her to take a side?
Growling lightly, which oddly enough almost sounded wolf-like if one managed to get within range, she kicked at a rock and watched it skip across the dry land infront of her. It was because of her that her parents died in her mindset, they wanted to protect her from the NINE for whatever reason, though before she could ask why they were killed directly infront of her. This was what caused her to flee and hide her abilities, or at least try to. She didn't want to become a murderer, she didn't want to fight, and most of all she didn't have anyone who understood her. Who else would've gone through the situation she went through anyways? More than likely no one she'd run into in the near future.
(ooc. Yet, Shutter would understand, heh.)

It was different going to places that you had never been before so when he wound up in Africa he really didn't know what he was doing there. It took him forever to find a motorcycle that still worked. He pulled it out of a junk pile and secretly found a way to get some gasoline in it so it would run. He'd teleported his way across the ocean so he hadn't had anything but what was on him. And he couldn't teleport a motorcycle with him. It would be too hard to do.
Word had bounced around of the possibility of Gleam Master hiding out in Africa which was what had brought him there. He was hunting for the other Guardian to try and get him back into the loop. Already Cole had gotten a circuit set up with Divenera. Rush was off somewhere, but no one presently knew where because she'd managed to blend in so well. For now it was just him and Madeline working together when they could and then it was mostly through the machines they had.
He climbed aboard the motorcycle, kicked it into gear and took off. Jetting down the streets of the city he ignored the strange looks that he got from the locals. A few NINE mechs appeared in front of him so he skidded the bike to the side and drove off down a side street. He could hear the jet packs on the mechs kicking in and he knew he didn't have much time before they were onto him again. He was going to have to fight.
Flipping his M4 Carbone around off his back he started driving with one hand. The city limits were upon him quickly enough and he drove out into the plains. The mechs were behind him and gaining, so he notes through his mirrors. When one of them got close, he twisted in his seat, aimed for the mechs face and fired a grenade right at it. The mech dropped to the ground, inoperable. The guy inside was dazed, but not dead. Unfortunately.
But while he was fighting the one the other had landed a little ways in front of him and started firing. Spotting it just in time, he teleported, coming out directly on top of the mech at the same time as the motorcycle skid into its legs. That was most unfortunate. The bike was an old indie and he rather liked it. A metal hand grabbed him and flung him away, but before he hit the ground Cole ported again, landing beside the mech. He fired armor piercing bullets into the knee joints before he ported away once, then twice, winding up something like thirty yards from where Lycan was. There he fell over, suddenly exhausted.

As she was travelling faint sounds of what almost sounded like gunfire a good distance away, which instantly threw up her guard. She had learned that it was never a good sign when she heard that and she should flee, but for once she found herself planted firmly to the ground she was on, her left hand resting on the vials containing the necessary components for shifting into an animal to flee. However, she wasn't able to spot anything within her sight range, so she relaxed figuring it would be safe to continue walking until she heard fire again. The fire didn't happen of course, but there was something else that occured, the one thing she would never expect to happen ever in her lifetime, especially when she was relaxed.
The sound of a body hitting the ground made her jump, twirling on the balls of her feet in the direction she heard it. At first, she thought she was losing her mind, but after about a minute or two of watching the body it hit her. There was no trees around, and she would've heard footsteps if he was walking, so how the heck did he just appear out of thin air and end up collasping on the ground a good amount of yards away from her? Moving her hand back to the vials subconsciously she took a few steps forward before pausing, eyes travelling in the direction she heard the gunshots.
Was he the one who was shooting whatever the heck it was back in that direction, or was it just mech acting up again and fighting against each other after being hacked or whatever the heck happened? It made her more cautious, but she moved to a safe enough distance where a conversation could be held with the male, but still enough room to where he would actually have to try and get up to try and attack her. She had no clue if he was peaceful or one of the ones who would fire without a second thought to it, because she had run into both of those types before.
Trying to keep a relaxed appearance she gave a friendly smile, even though she was kind of nervous about this random male. "Get into a fight back there, or were those mechs going haywire again for no reason?" It was a reasonable question in her opinion, since she had no clue what was going on after all, mostly because she only heard it but couldn't see it. Of course, she was semi-careful on her wording, not wanting to get on his bad side if he was of either side of the 'superpowers', knowing that she would end up facing more than one at once if it came down to that.

Yeah, all of the teleporting he'd been doing lately was really starting wear him down. It took a lot of energy to do, much the same as running or any other physical activity did. So, when he did it a lot it got the best of him as it had this time. When he'd ported to a stop near where Lycan was, his body had collapsed and he'd fallen to the ground, fully conscious and aware of everything that was going on. The jumps across the ocean and the jumps during the fight had just been to much. He'd hoped, really, to have just gotten to ride the Indie.
When he heard something moving about his hand instinctively went for his gun. There were lots of wild animals around and he didn't want to have some big cat sneak up and attack him out of nowhere. He didn't know what would happen if something bit him and he teleported. Would he lose a chunk of himself to the animal or would it come with him? No, he was pretty sure that shooting would work much better than getting bit. So he was ready.
But then he heard a female voice and reacted instantly by porting just a bit away, landing back on his feet, even if it was a wobbly stance. His eyes glanced over the woman from the safety of his mask, but all he could see on her was a tranquilizer gun. He stared at this for a moment and then glances around to see if he could spot anyone watching. These days, not seeing anyone else on a wide plain didn't mean they were alone. There could be a super with invisibility meandering about.
"It was a fight, same as usual. The mechs don't like it when I'm riding around on a motorcycle."
In fact, they didn't much like it when he did anything. He was Shutter, one of the four Guardians and there was a kill order out on him because he was always fighting back against NINE. They didn't like the little victories he had. Needless to say, he was always on guard and knew he could never really settle down again because they'd find him if he did. Running was his only option. That, too, wore him out.
"If you've not figured it out, I'm Shutter, one of the Guardians of the Valor Guard. So if you're a NINE agent it would behoove you to say so now."

The sudden teleportation back and him getting onto his feet threw her off, making her reach for her hidden arsenal of senpon with poisoned tips, knowing that would be her best bet as compared to the spare gun she carried or her dagger. She was more skilled in kempo and ninja arts surprisingly as compared to typical technology, which often threw the few people she did have to fight off, mostly because they knew how to dodge typical technology as compared to some of the older forms of fighting. Rather, they sometimes forgot some of the things that were capable of hurting as much, if not more than, a bullet from a gun. If she landed the needle right she could hit certain points on a muscle that would disable it with extreme pain if combined with the poisons.
At his response to the mechs she couldn't help but chuckle softly to herself, once again letting her amber gaze focus in the direction the firing came from earlier. They obviously didn't like this male, so it meant he was one of the VG, or at least one of the more well-known members, because they didn't attack those who they didn't know that she was aware of. At this point, however, she was giving off a guise of being relaxed as compared to the true more cautious side that she wanted to display. She had learned that if she showed any signs of being tense she would often get taken a little offguard as compared to them being confused of why she was 'relaxed'.
When he mentioned that he was Shutter her eyes widened a little in recognition, taking a step back out of nervousness, but not because she sided with the NINE. Instead, she was fearful of the fact he might find out she was like him, and would try to kidnap her or force her into their organization. Once he said to reveal if she was one of the NINE she couldn't help but shake her head in disbelief, focusing her gaze directly on him with a friendly smirk.
"If I was one of them, I would've known right off the bat you were Shutter, no?" It was true, she only heard of his name and that he was a Guardian of the VG, but never much more than that. Allowing herself to actually relax a little she let her left hand drop from the hidden vials and her right to rest on her hip, but ready to slip into one of her many hidden pouches if she needed to protect herself for any reason. Something told her he would be generally peaceful after she just admitted part of the truth to him, without the bit of her having abilities at least and the fact she did have a call name known to a select few she knew and trusted that were neutral like herself.
"The names Raven, and no offense meant, but I really don't support VG or NINE. Both sides haven't really shown anything that appeals to me.. I'd much rather just live a normal life without having constant conflict. Either way, niether of you guys are better than the other that I'm aware of.." Obviously she was going to possibly push a button or two by saying that, but she wasn't aware of it until after she said it. Oh great..

"Have you been living in a cave for the last few years?"
That was the first thought that popped into his head when she mentioned that the VG and NINE seemed similar enough to say that there weren't any noticeable differences. In fact there were a great many and that's what made him curious about this girl. And the fact she said she didn't have a side. Civilians always had a side. They either supported NINE or they supported the VG. If she didn't have a side, well, it made him curious. Curious enough to where he believed her for the moment.
He put all of his weapons away now, satisfied, for the moment, that this girl didn't pose a threat to him. Not that he couldn't escape if she did. She seemed odd, though, and he was curious enough to allow the oddity of the situation to keep him there. He waved towards her in show of the fact that he wasn't going to try anything and then he sat down on the ground. Being tired and needing to rest also facilitated his desire to stay and speak with her. He wasn't going anywhere anyways.
"There are.. huge differences between the Valor Guard and NINE. The first being that we don't kill. We never do. Sometimes we may want to, but that's what makes us the better people, the one you'll find that most non-superheroes support. We might cause some harm to those that fight against us, but never mortal harm. We'll even go out of the way to make sure they live and some believe that's our downfall.
"The VG was founded by three of the four original superheroes in the hopes of keeping the peace. While NINE resorted to killing to try and preserve the balance, we believed and still do, that people can change so we targeted facilities and not people. Our goal isn't to kill the bad people in the world, though there's some I'd like to for what they did to me. Our goal is to restore order and peace.
"If you look around you can easily see that most are suffering as a result of NINE taking over. We represent the only group fighting to return things to the way they were as well as better them. We don't work for money, we don't work for glory, we work for the people."

At the question he asked she was confused for a moment, tilting her head a bit to display it as well. Was it really that shocking that she didn't take a side in the battle and didn't see anything more different amongst them? Once he showed signs that he meant no harm at all she fully relaxed as well, moving her hand away from its defensive position and watching him curiously. The mask he wore really threw her off, a part of her wanting to just remove it so she could just see what he looked like underneath it, but at the same time she respected it. Well, it was something she was slightly jealous of, but at the same time she could never convince herself to hide her face like he did.
It was then he launched into descriptions, pointing out how the two were different from one another. Silently she sorted things out in her mind until he added how he'd like to kill them for what they have done to him, which got her a little cautious. He just mentioned the organization was anti-killing, anti-poverty, all the good stuff she expected the 'superhero' side would have, but there were some things that did make her question it once again. They made sure the evil didn't die? Wouldn't that just mean it would come back to stab them in the back when they least expected it?
After he finished off her eyes shifted to meet his gaze to the best of her abilities, finding it hard with the whole mask thing being there. "One thing that throws me off there, however, is that you let them live. If you make sure evil lives on, they can learn your weaknesses, therefore eventually overpowering you and possibly even killing you." That was one thing that came to her mind almost right off the bat, though there were many others that came to her mind alongside it. And, it was at this point, it was time for her to start throwing out questions to him.
"Both sides are constantly seeking out others like yourself, fighting over something that almost seems pointless. What about the lives lost rebelling against something so strong that it can't be easily broken? What if by rebelling out in the open it will get you killed more than keeping in the shadows until you know their weakness?" Two questions in a row, though she had many more than she could throw out there at him.

"We don't think that peace is pointless. We don't think that justice, or liberty, or freedom are pointless. It's not a cookie cutter ideal, Raven. It's much more than that."
Boy did he have a feeling that this girl was going to be a tough nut to crack. That or she really was a NINE agent and just hadn't said anything. Something made him not suspect that latter argument, though, perhaps how she seemed genuinely curious of things. For the moment, and unless he was given reason not to, he would continue to focus on and think of her as just a curious sort that was slightly confused over the matter. Or she just didn't like fighting.
"We can't kill them. If we kill them we'll just become as bad as them. That's how it all started. Solar used to be one of the good guys. Then he changed his name to Prime and became a vigilante before starting NINE. Now see what NINE has become. Look around you. See the fruits of Prime's labor to kill people."
If she only knew the truth of the matter, how him getting killed really didn't bother him, then she wouldn't have said the last bit. He would give anything to be back with Alex where he knew her to be safe. But it wasn't to be. He had obligations here. He had a job here on Earth. He had to help people when he could. He had to do whatever it would take to make things right and to make NINE pay for what they'd done.
"Look, even though I want to kill the lot of them I can't bring myself to do it. I'm an ex US Marine. My wife was as well. She worked with the Valor Guard as a mechanic. When NINE attacked our base of operations they killed her and likely our unborn child as well. But that's no reason to allow myself to turn into them. We cannot contribute to the atrocities that have befallen the world, Raven. We have to maintain who we are. We might not destroy them, but we CAN try and change them."

As he spoke on about it not being pointless she couldn't help but think otherwise mentally, though it was the one thing she wanted. It was because there was a huge power struggle that things lacked peace, lacked freedom like it used to.. she had seen this happen first hand after all. It was then he began to lay down the fact that this Solar she actually knew of had become the Prime she disliked at times, and what had happened because of him. There was complete disbelief that a single person could cause a whole chain-effect that would lead up to what was currently happening, merely because the lighter side of things tended to prevail over the darker side in the past.
It was then he stated how they killed his wife and possibly an unborn child, which she instantly understood his feelings when it came down to her own parents. Her mind flashed back to the very moment her parents were killed infront of her own eyes, a sort of reminder of what could happen if she 'as a normal human' dared to try and rebel against the NINE. The one thing that really remained strong in her mind was a pair of yellow eyes gazing back at her own amber ones, seeming to want to kill her, but at the same time not in order to spare her and keep a strong warning out to the people.
Letting a sigh escape her lips she closed her eyes for a moment, trying to decide if she should trust the male or not. He had been through the same pain she had when she was much younger, he wasn't trying to kill her or capture her.. but then again he still didn't know who she really was. He was right, though, they couldn't end up like people who wanted to kill, but at the same time she could easily kill without meaning to in pure self-defense. Animal instincts were rather hard to tame if she was in one of her many feral forms fighting to live.
"My parents were killed a long time ago by the leader of the NINE because they rebelled, Shutter. I can't erase those yellow hued eyes from my mind, no matter how much I want to. She knows my real name, but she doesn't know why my parents rebelled against her." It was at this point where she figured it was better off to reveal herself, having a faint feeling he would question exactly why they would rebel for her sakes without directly saying it. Hesitantly she pulled out one of her many vials, this one containing a mix of brown, gray and white fur that she had grown to love.
"And I gave you Raven because I didn't know if I could place my trust in you, but I'm willing to try. By those who know who I really am, I am called Lycan.. I've remained neutral since the beginning because I haven't really grown fond of the whole idea of fighting and killing. If it's out of self-defense and I go onto one of my animal forms.. I can't say that I won't kill by accident, I can't control the animals natural instinct." Opening the vial she had in her hand, she took out a single piece of fur, before closing it and securing it in it's proper spot on her belt.
"With a single piece of fur like this, I can shift into the original animal who it belonged to. Blood, scales, skin, feathers.. all those I can use to escape or fight if needed be, and it's been the one thing that's kept me safe all these years from being discovered. I've watched a few of you in the shadows through an animal form.. I just never understood the motives of both sides."

So her name was Antia, that was the name she would definitely keep in mind for the future. She wasn't planning on letting the other female down on what she had done to her parents when she was younger, even though it struck some fear into her heart whenever the eyes flashed into her mind. Of course, she didn't know the others abilities at the time, except for the fact her parents seemed to suddenly be frozen still before Antia murdered them with a sword. The female seemed to have the same fighting tastes as herself when it came down to weapons, but she preferred distance over close range combat unlike the other.
At the mentioning of accidents happening she merely gave a weak nod in agreement, gaze falling to the ground for a brief second, or at least until she caught a moment of his out of the corner of her eyes. Confused for a moment she gazed up, noticing that the mask was suddenly missing and she was seeing the true face of one of the Guardians. It was a kind of shock at first for her that he placed enough trust in her to let her see his real self, but she quickly shook it off. She had to focus on the matter at hand rather than what he trusted her with and what he didn't.
"Is there anyway I could just get to know the feel for the organization itself without actually being linked to it until I'm ready?" Alright, she would admit after all he had told her she was more interested in the idea of the VG, but at the same time she was still nervous about taking a side. Maybe if she was allowed to get an insight of what the people were like ahead of time, even if it meant that she was considered a possible 'infiltrator', maybe she could just finally find a sort of safe haven where she could be comfortable instead of constantly hiding herself like she was now.
It was then that something else hit her, focusing her gaze fully on the male with a questioning look. "I know your not a native to here by your accent, so what are you doing out here anyways? Don't tell me it was just to mess with the mechs.." Well, it was obvious he had to be here for a reason, but if he trusted her with the reason was what the true question was.

"Yes, that's possible. I can take you to a safe house and you can get to know some people there, see what they're like, make friends."
There were a few safe houses nearby he could take her to. There were a great many in the world as a whole so if there was one in particular she was interested in, a place she was interested in, then he could take her there. The farther away it was from where they were the more dangerous it would get, but he could get her just about anywhere without any harm coming to her. He was good at what he did, after all.
"No, I'm not from around here. And No I'm not here to just fight the mechs."
Well, he didn't mind fighting the mechs. The more he disabled the less that everyone else had to deal with. Not that it made a huge dent to take out two of them. NINE had a full blown army of mechs that ran around all over the world fighting against the VG and keeping the so called 'peace.' If he could only figure out where all the manufacturing plants were he could hit them hard, but he had yet to do so and really need Divenera's help with that.
"I'm from the states. I used to be a Marine before I joined the Valor Guard. I'm here in Africa because I heard that Rush might be around here. Was hoping to find her."
If he could find Rush then he'd have found two of the three he was looking for and they could start to coordinate things again. Then he'd only have to find Gleam Master and the Guardians would be back together again which was exactly what NINE did not want to happen. With the Guardians back together there would be trouble for what NINE had built up. That's exactly what Cole wanted.

In response to him actually willing to take her to a safe house so she could get to know the others she gave a small genuine smile in response, nodding her head. It was sort of a relief for her, hating the feeling of being watched almost constantly to make sure she was obeying what laws were actually set down, but she had an escape unlike some of the others. While being able to shift into animals and hunt down animals like the natural food chain, the other had to stand in long lines with food stamps. Heck, she just had to do that every once and a while to blend in and not be caught as not using them.
Hearing he was from the states wasn't too surprising, his accent was faint, but to the point she knew he was from there. She, of course, had a mixed accent between her Wyoming one from living there a few years and her 'Canadian' accent. Once he mentioned about Rush a look of recognition entered her eyes, that being a name she had actually heard about recently. "Rush was around I think, I thought I heard some civilians talking about her not too long ago. I wish I could help, but all I heard was her name."
It was true that being able to shift into animal forms got her some information pretty readily, something she would offer if they needed it if she chose their side in the end. Of course, it would mean she would have to be careful and pick animals that were native to the area she was in, but that wouldn't be hard with her knowledge of animals. Besides, she enjoyed having the opportunity to help out using her own abilities instead of just using them for her own amusement.
As she was about to speak again an odd sound caught her attention, eyes narrowing a bit as she gazed where she believed it was coming from. Of course, he might've not picked it up as easily as she did because of her 'enhanced' senses, but it sounded like whatever caused the noise was coming closer, because each time it caught her attention it was a tad bit louder. Reaching towards her hidden weapon stock she gazed to him out of the corner of her eye, figuring she was best off warning him.
"I don't know if you can hear it, but I think some of your buddies might be coming after you again. Either that, or we're having company from somebody within the next minute or so..." She couldn't exactly pinpoint what the sound was easily, all she knew was it was growing closer and he seemed a little worn out, so she might need to assist him. She hated fighting, but if it came down to it she would have to, especially to protect someone who was willing to help her out in the end one way or another.

As she watched the distance she began to pick out exactly what it was, and perhaps it was something she even feared it would be. Mechs, they were hunting him down after all, so it was a good thing she was equipped with a few things that might help out. Without a single bit of hesitation she pulled out a few 'hacked' kunai as she called them, flinging them directly at some of the ones leading the pack of them. She knew well enough as soon as any contact was made with them they'd give off a strong enough explosion to equal that of a bullet, but she also knew if they thought to shoot at them it was backfire. She had a few more in her left hand that she was ready to activate and throw at them, until he spoke again.
His words surprised her though, allowing her gaze to slip off the approaching mechs for a second to give him a confused look. He wanted to run while he was tired? That made no sense at all, and she knew even if they ran they would have to eventually fight them one way or another, or so she thought. Shaking her head in refusual she flung four more at the approaching mechs before leaping back a little, pulling out her only pistol/shotgun type of gun.
"We can't just flee from them, now can we? They can easily communicate where we are to one another in the end, plus it looks like your a little worn out from running yourself." She was trying to put logic behind it all, knowing that running really would be the best option, but she didn't want him to get stuck collasping out of exhaustion. That would mean they would have to fight with less energy than they had at the moment, and she could easily out run him if she shifted into any of her animal forms.
"I might hate fighting, but running only means killing off energy.. and we can get cut off by another wave. What will we do if we're worn out from running and have to face more than this wave alone here?" Now she was more concerned about him, which was abnormal, although she wasn't directly stating it outloud. It was odd for her to care more about a sort of stranger over herself, but it didn't matter.
