Hi folks, here's where I announce details of plugins written by myself. Either on my own or in my day-job at SSL.....

My first SSL creation has now been released.

It's called Drumstrip and is designed to make crap drums sound good! Have a look at the following link

http://www.solid-state-logic.com/news/drumstrip_news.html

It was released yesterday at the NAMM show in USA and people really seem to like it!

I'm chuffed

Here's a link to one of my other plugins, it's called DrumTrig.

This is one I wrote before I started working for SSL and it's job is to replace crap drum sounds with better ones.

I used this on the Snare Drum when 'Inspired Punch' recorded at my place. Ade, their drummer, used a snare which (I quote Mick Tongue) was so high, only dogs could hear it.....

Anyway, a company which produce recording software called 'Reaper' use this plugin in their drum tutorial, and here's the link....

PS. I love their FFT gate, I think I'm going to write one....

Here's a mention of my pre-SSL plugin STThick (Stereo Thickner). It was in the January 2007 edition of Sound On Sound magazine, in an article by Martin Walker called 'Stereo Image Trickery With PC Plug-ins'.

Pseudo-stereo' is a completely different treatment from the others discussed here, designed to turn mono signals into stereo ones, to make them sound 'bigger'. Various techniques can be used. One of the simplest is to make a couple of copies of a mono audio track, delay them both slightly, pan them left and right, and possibly phase-invert one of them as well. You can do this manually or with a plug-in such as Storm's freeware STThick (www.stormrecordingstudio.co.uk), which provides control over the delay time and mix level of the original versus the new, cloned versions. Voxengo's freeware Stereo Touch (www.voxengo.com) is similar in offering two delays, but with the added sophistication of variable low-pass filtering, to help you make the direct signal stand out, variable gain on the second delay, and variable pan and width controls (see screenshot, right).

Drumstrip is now available to buy! Woo Hoo....

Also I saw an interview with Mike Oldfield in 'Resolution' Magazine where he briefly mentions the SSL Duende:

What other gear do you use?
I’ve got the SSL Duende. It sounds and feels like a real mixer ... And I’ve got the UAD card for the Intel Mac, but the SSL just feels nice.

It's a strange but rewarding feeling to have one of your heroes/influences compliment your work!

And another one....

A guy who calls himself LordWard has posted this about DrumStrip

I have just played around with the drumstrip....... I think I am going to shit my pants...... omg! It sounds really cool! I just took a muddy bass drum and made it sound like Metallica......... omg!
You'll be able to hear the new drumsrtip on Robin Becks' new album that I'm just mixing.

Didn't she do the song that was used in a Coke advert.... First time, first love, oh what feeling is this.... etc....

PS. These Germans really know how to express themselves...
PPS. I've just had a look at Robin Beck's website, and she states that she is indeed making a new album. She's also getting the help of a team called 'The House of Lords'. I wonder if LordWard is one of these? This does seem to give the story some credibility.

theres a band called 'The Young Knives' and they have a bassist called house of Lords.

Probably not the same one though. Good stuff if you can get past the crazy lyrics.
