WELCOME TO NYC KATHERINE A. LANE the winner takes it all the loser has to fall it’s simple and it’s plain why should I complain?
my name is katherine anna lane, otherwise known as kate, kathy, katie, kath. i'm currently thirty-five years old, but i'll be a year older on 12 august. i'm living in new york city, trying to make it as a partner. just so you know, i only sleep with men. APPEARANCE face claim angelina jolie height five foot seven weight one hundred and thirty six pounds physical figure clearly, thin, but kate has enough curves, even if they're not voluptuous. distinguishing features kath never appears in public without make-up. add to that her oh-so-prominent lips. clothing style classy, stylish. katherine sticks to a professional look at all times, with below-knee skirts, pants and blazers. she wants to be taken like a man, but since she can't she at least attempts by wearing clothing that don't make her 'sexy' but do land her on the 'best dressed' list.

THE REST canon or original? canon read everything? ADMIN EDIT? sample role play | QUOTE | Alice had been up since four that morning, which meant she'd been up for twelve hours which meant that the last thing she needed at the moment was some sniveling schoolgirl who thought she was the bees' knees. And that was not a phrase that Alice would use, it was a phrase she was almost certain the kid would use. They always spoke like that. In fact, interns were the worst thing to happen to the Center. It was, what, October now? Well. In the four months that Alice had had this job for, she'd managed to go through twelve equally incompetent interns.
The only reason that Alice kept on hiring the pricks, was because the higher-ups told her she had to. If there was any way that she could get out of it she would. But she couldn't, which completely sucked. The blonde took a deep breath and switched on her computer. While the little bitch wasn't here, she could at the very least do some work.
Alice opened a program she had written for working out the chances of getting an ability. Not that the program was much use - they needed to think outside the box. Strike that. She needed to think outside the box because everyone else was too busy worrying about their mother/father/sister/brother/husband/wife/step-child/second cousin thrice removed. A bigger crowd of inadequate scientists, Alice had yet to meet. If these were the best in the country, she shuddered to think what the worst did.
What interested Alice was how the genes were created. Clearly, they were created, because once the infected individuals mated and produced off-spring (Alice really did think like that) their dominant ability was passed down. So, naturally it was easy to assume that the genes were dominant. But how come some worms' created genes that were more dominant than others. Could you even have that? More dominant? Or were they thinking it through all wrong and was their simply a matter of probability involved? They'd never thought so, but what if?
You know what she needed? Alice needed an embryo. They needed to autopsy a child who has not yet been born. If they knew what the genes did in the embryo, whether or not they were there or, what if they were infected upon actual birth? Like a disease, passed through blood. Like HIV. It would be even better if she could autopsy the mother, father, embryo and a child of theirs' who has already been born.
Dr Crawford spun round in her swivel chair and wondered if there was an all-Legacy family in Centralia who were all willing to commit suicide for the sake of science. She doubted it, because while she didn't really understand people, she understood people enough to realize that most had an irrational desire to live. Irrational, because most of them had absolutely no purpose for being on this planet, nor did their being here do anyone any sort of benefit. Normally, however, when she tried to explain this to people they looked at her like she was a total bitch who just told them they had five eyes. Or, and this was the more common reaction, stared at Alice like she had five eyes.
Speaking of that, why didn't the worms produce any reactions other than the really weird genetic mutations. Any other parasite could, and probably eventually would, kill you. Why didn't these? Or did they? Did they just act more slowly than others? Okay. If this was the case, then was it possible that if left in a newcomer they could kill them? Surely they would reproduce and die and in doing this, the person's antibodies would try and get rid of them, wreaking havoc with the person?
Unless the worms didn't die. Or they attacked the person's antibodies, which was worth checking out. Oh, and there was another thing. Was it possible to stop the mutation, for instance, by getting rid of the parasites in a newly infected person. That was also worth checking out. Right now. Wait, another thing. Why couldn't people who had Legacy mutations get infected? And was that the answer, should a vaccine against the worms be created? Make everyone infected? But what if they did kill people?
Just as Alice was getting into her thinking, her pager buzzed.
Oh, shit. Alice stood up, pulled on her lab coat with her name-tag and grabbing a clipboard with some forms on it (mostly indemnity forms to stop the little bitch suing all their asses) and headed out of her office. Alice loved walking through the Center, because as people saw her, they literally ducked. And it made her feel important and special. Boy oh boy did Alice love being hated by everyone.
Arriving in reception, Alice stared at the only person who didn't fit in. Her CV had said she was seventeen, but Alice thought she looked younger - it was a thing she experienced daily. People probably thought Miss Wilde was much younger. Not that this similar trait the two shared would make them soul sisters or anything of the sort.
"Wilde?" Alice looked coldly at her - at least people who didn't know her would think it's cold, those who did know her knew it was her normal look, "I'm Dr Crawford the Head of Genetics Research. I have some forms for you," the blonde shoved the clipboard towards Jacqueline, and then continued her speech.
"You're under my command. I'm not your mother, or sister or friend. I'm your boss. I don't care about you, at all, you could be a bloody space alien for all I care. You can be crazy, depressive, or passive-aggressive. Those are not my problems. What you can't be is stupid. I'm going to ask one thing from you only, to do your job. Most of you lot don't get that, they think this is some sort of game. It isn't a game, it's life. You can hate me, I don't care either. But if you screw up, you will be out of here before you can say sorry, and I'm not exaggerating. I don't like you, I have no personal feeling involved - you're going to be here on merit and merit only, and if there's no merit, then why the hell would you be here? Also, I don't follow Employment Law, even though that's against the law. This entire Center probably does things against the law, and you're a kid to whom I'm giving a chance, so don't expect me to follow procedures. Is that understood, Wilde?"
