The new casting hit [show] from the USA
“The Voice” has been shown in the USA since spring already. The idea of the new casting concept: a judging panel of four is seated with their backs towards a contestant and is supposed to be won over by their vocals alone and not their appearance.
Xavier Naidoo: How tough will his judgement turn out to be? The soul singer will vote on the new vocal talents.
Nena: She will also decide on who’s out or in: the singer is part of the celeb judging panel.
Alongside Adam Levine from Maroon 5 singer Christina Aguilera (pictured) is one of the four judges on the talent show in America. It’s going to be THE battle for viewing figures amongst talent shows. In September the new season of “Germany’s got Talent” will start – and at the same time a new casting format will hit the screens: “The Voice of Germany”.
Dieter Bohlen gets something for his ears! [nb He’s the main judge on ”German Pop Idol” and “Germany’s got Talent”. He’s Germany’s Simon Cowell so to speak.]
As was revealed now, Pro7 secured the rights to the successful show from the USA – and they want to boast with a celebrity judging panel against the previously well-proven team of “Germany’s got Talent”, Dieter Bohlen (57), Sylvie van der Vaart (33) and Bruce Darnell (53). Only the best known and most successful musicians get asked to be a judge – stars like Nena (51) and Xavier Naidoo (39) have already accepted.
Now IN found out from the immediate circle that two of Germany’s hottest stars are being discussed: Bill and Tom from Tokio Hotel! That would be smashing. For then the twins would finally return to their previous home again. Currently they’re living in Los Angeles - just like their discoverer and producer David Jost – and are planning their next studio album.
Everything is still TOP SECRET. And of course also a matter of money – however, that’s not majorly relevant to John DeMol (56). The two times billionaire (according to Forbes) is the inventor of the Dutch TV format that’s currently receiving top viewing figures in the USA (with Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine on the judging panel). The producer mastermind got famous and rich through the mega success of “Big Brother” though.
How exactly does “The Voice” work – and to what extent is the new format different to other casting shows like “German Pop Idol”, “Germany’s got Talent” (both on RTL) and “X-Factor” (on Vox)? In America and the Netherlands four judges are seated with their backs towards the contestants on the stage so that they really focus on their voice only – and don’t get distracted by the appearance. If the vocal talent is poor, the buzzer will get hit – and in the end the majority decides who gets to the next round.
“We’re not looking for 16-year-old pubescent teens who think they’re Justin Timberlake but can’t sing in tune. ‘The Voice of Germany’ doesn’t provide a stage for freaks and little wannabe stars. Only the best of the best make it to the ‘blind auditions’. One could say that ‘The Voice of Germany’ picks up where ‘Pop Idol’ leaves off”, John DeMol says very plainly. And it also being a dig at Bohlen’s casting hits.
So the suspense continues: if Tokio Hotel should actually accept, the TV channel can expect high viewing figures – due to the big fan community and the guaranteed outspoken and snappy judgements of Bill and Tom.
However, whether it’ll be kept as a committee of only four is also still left open. As IN also learned the German version of “The Voice” is supposed to get a so-called “twins position” (meaning two artists sharing one buzzer – in this case Bill and Tom Kaulitz).
In addition, another celeb for the judging panel is still being searched for at the moment: amongst others Andreas “Bär” Läsker, manager of Die Fantastischen Vier, is being discussed. He already sat next to Dieter Bohlen on the “German Pop Idol” judging panel.
Those stars didn’t want to be involvedMainly top-notch – that’s what the celeb judging panel of “The Voice of Germany” is supposed to be like. A-list German music stars got asked – IN found out that rock dinosaurs Marius Müller-Westerhagen and Herbert Grönemeyer declined.
**[nb “Mann, sind die cool, Mann.” is based on an advertising slogan for "Dickmann’s" . That’s the brand name and also a family name and the sweets with that name are quite fluffy, sticky foam kisses on a wafer covered in chocolate. Nice!^^ They used to have TV commercials with people stuffing their faces with them, trying to fit one whole foam kiss into their mouths, then trying to speak with a full mouth and saying “Mann, sind die Dickmann/dick, Mann”. It was a word play with the name, literally meaning “Man, are they thick/huge, man.” A bit like pointing out the obvious. XD You can even find people re-enacting the slogan in videos on youtube.]
P.S.: Some of you might remember that Xavier Naidoo was the guy who sang at Oliver Pocher's wedding reception and according to German magazine "Bunte" Bill and Tom were the only ones not cheering afterwards. Followed by a quote from another party guest about Bill mentioning that the party was cool but not so much his style.
