I just rewatched Follow the Leader and I got the distinct impression that Richard is someone who is always there beside the leader, almost like a lackey.

Or a genie.

Hell, he never ages, and he seems to do what everyone asks.

Hmm I don't know about a lackey. I'm wondering if he's more of the Leader then we think. He's like the principle of a school. He lets his teachers lead and he backs them up but he supercedes them and their judgement if need be. Like when he saved Ben even though he knew Charles and Ellie wouldn't approve.

Yeah...lackey isn't the right word. I'm thinking more like a number 2 who controls more than the leader thinks he does. But not really a number 2 like a vice president or anything.

Almost like a butler. Like Batman's butler...what the hell was his name...?
