:: Know Who I Am ::
Personality: For those who know HK-47, he has a very similar personality. Sociopathic, prideful, self-superior, and full of quirks. He takes great pleasure in his work, and believes himself superior to all organics. Only those responsible for the death of so many organics or perform similar, impressive destructive feats, such as being responsible for the death, maiming, or otherwise destruction of powerful people. When REM says something, he often uses a descriptor denoting the sort of comment he is making, like "Query:" and then asks the question normally.
One major difference between him and the original HK droids he is derived from is that he was programmed to have an appreciation for philosophy, so he often debates abstract topics, sometimes with his victims, even while they are dying or are unable to reply due to a crushed esophagus or an excess of blood in their throats. Regardless of the answer given, it is "Not satisfactory to justify their furthered existence." Which, of course, ends with REM ending their life, or simply leaving them to die.
Other: Unlike HK-47, he does not refer to organics as 'Meatbags,' and was originally programmed with 'Organic' as a default term. However, in his work, he has removed this default, searching for an alternative more befitting of his prey and those around him. He has yet to find such a term. Currently, the term he uses is 'Rotbeing,' as all organics eventually rot, whether physically or mentally, literally or figuratively.
Another quirk is that he is exceptionally good and affectionate to children, to the point that he tends to avoid being directly responsible for their deaths. He has been programmed with many protocols on child-rearing and his voice and even his optical receptor's colors change when he is working with them. He has few qualms about being indirectly responsible, or ignoring the deaths of, children, and it is within his programming to see to the defense of the children of his master, making Helena Cain a fitting master for him, as she has no children.

Powers: REM-2A1 is an excellent shot, better than almost every "Rotbeing" in the known galaxy and better than a great number of droids, as well, even under fire, in a combat zone, and when firing in close quarters and at long range. A major change from the original HK series is that he is capable of wielding a sword for melee combat, and he can outduel most people.

History: His story begins, technically, thousands of years ago when the HK-50 series was created by Darth Revan and activated by G0-T0. Several HK-50 droids survived and went on to become powerful Bounty Hunters and killed many Jedi over the years. One of these droids was deactivated on Coruscant, and found by a droid designer. he took the droid home and began to study the magnificent design, discovering its programming, its capabilities, and its purposes. Seeing opportunity in it performing bounties for him, bringing in extra income.
Being created to perform bounties and to be a nanny for Richard's children, REM was highly unusual for being designed, based on, and looking like his HK predecessors. He was affectionate and educational, and his children loved their nanny-droid so. Richard's wife was uneasy, but approved of the droid after a while. REM is actually the second in his series, the first being a stripped-down version with only the nanny protocols, which shared the appropriate memory with 2A1. The children, nor his wife, ever noticed that there were two droids, not one.
Eventually, REM mistook one of his targets as being dead, and it tracked him back to Telti. The hunted man found out about REM's connection to Richard's children, and rigged REM-1A1 to explode, something that REM-2A1 noticed before setting out on another bounty. Richard had REM evacuate his family as his master attempted to stop the explosion to save their home, but it ended in disaster as Richard was destroyed, along with the nanny droid.
His wife then demanded that REM explain why there was two of him, but Richard was his master, not his wife, so the assassin droid felt no compulsion to explain. As his master's wife began to slap the droid fruitlessly, his surviving target stepped out of the shadows and threatened to kill his master's youngest child, to which REM responded to violently, finishing off his prey once and for all.
Richard's wife had REM sold and kept the bounty money, leaving nothing to the droid. He passed through several masters who only used him as a protocol droid and/or a nanny droid. He would often engage in discussions of philosophy and politics with his masters or their friends and associates, but they were hardly satisfactory.
After a while, he was able to arrange that he be bought by a bounty hunter, who made use of his assassination protocols to become quite wealthy. During their travels, REM encountered Helena Cain, and was impressed with the possibilities of being her droid. Though she wasn't particularly interested, he was still able to convince her to purchase him, although for a hefty sum. She immediately put him to work, pulling many dangerous jobs simply to get rid of him, and he occasionally took side jobs for income. He has yet to fail in any of his assigned tasks, and after each, he requests for more.
One of his missions for the Separatists was to assassinate an Alderaanian scientist that was working on a series of projects that would improve the ecology of many polluted worlds. With the Separatists wanting to destabilize the Republic, he was sent in to remove the scientist. He had himself 'sold' to the scientist's vessel. On the night that he was planning to kill the scientist, Favius Griffith snuck aboard the vessel and detonated charges, and began to pick off the personnel on the ship. REM used the unforeseen chaos to have the scientist eliminated, and began to aid Favius in the murder and destruction. Since then, the pair have been working together, and REM arranged so that Favius would be working as a contract mercenary for the Separatists. They have created a genuine respect for one another.
