Title: How Many Extra Model?
Description: How big is your graveyard

Still painting my army, and is wondering how many extra zombies and skeletons one needs..
It would be such a sad thing not to be able to bait those hcaos knights or block that hellblaster because youve run out of models..

For the first time in history Im going to actually finish an army and move on to the next, this because my bits boxes and storage spaces are full, many of you probably know the situation.

Im therefor asking: What is the maximum number of zombies/spare skeletons youve ever needed in a 2k battle?

I have 40 Zombies (some have coffin lid shields), about 50 Skeletons with spears and shields, more than 30 Skeletons with hand weapons and shields, and 10 Skeletons with crossbows.

I also have several 20 mm x 20 mm and 40 mm x 40 mm bases that feature undead in various stages of crawling out of a grave. Click here for a picture. The emerging creatures are painted with a combination of the color schemes that I used for the Zombies and the Skeletons.

The 40x40 bases take up the same space as 4 Zombies or Skeletons. Dropping one or two of these into a unit is faster than setting up individual models. I’ve received many positive comments about the bases. No one has objected to me using the emerging creatures models (at tournaments or elsewhere).

I have started using the 20x20 bases as wound markers. Like most people, I have used dice to indicate wounds taken on multi-wound characters or creatures. And like most people, the wound dice get picked up along with all the other dice as the battle progresses. I’m less likely to try to roll a gravestone to cast a spell, so the markers tend to stay where they are needed longer than just dice.

That's a great idea for wound markers. Like your picture of your undead coming out of the grave too.

I think the 40x40mm bases was a good idea too; that'd really speed things up. It would allow you to be more creative as well.

In answer to the thread question - in my Night of the Living Dead I have 140 starting Zombies, and with 12 power dice I expect to raise 50-100 more models during a game. So it all depends on bloodline and composition of the army.

But I think mr Lee has already moved on to other armies by now.

I have about forty extra models that I can raise, that are painted at least. I have a Ziploc gallon-size freezer bag with about forty partially primed skeletons in it that I bought as part of an Ebay lot. On really good summoning days, I use them. As I play only at local tournies (the one at our store), it's not a problem.

Of the painted 40, half are skellies and half are zombies.

How many you need really depends on your starting list, but from reading through this thread, it looks like about two units worth is the norm.

If your entire VC collection can't fit in a GW carry case, then you have to many models otherwise stop when you do fill a case full of VC :).
