Title: Need Input
Description: Spell familiar vs Black periapt

Before i start, NO, i won't change my characters setup. I'm looking on opinions about an item swap. This list is a very fluffy thematic army list that i don't change from game to game, as i built it for the theme (Angel Tv show) and for the looks and conversions opportunities. (yes, i even keep my 2 banshees against slaanesh chaos and undead and use them other way, like charging a fleeing giant through a rocky terrain and killing it ^_^ ) And no, don't "you'll die you don't have dispel scroll" me. My main army is Skavens, and i've long since learned to deal with soaking magic without scrolls or caddies and with normal to no magic, so i can deal with it except in extreme circumstances, but extra heavy magic lists are rare in my groups.

So, here i am, wondering about the periapt. It never was a favorite of mine, but pt for pt, it equals the familiar i include in my list. Now, i wonder. Would i be better with +1 dice as opposed to +1 spell, and in particular does it happen often the opponent has 1 extra dice left at the end of the phase, or must you sacrifice 1 dice to have 1 more in the next phase, rendering the item quite useless in my view ?

To better illustrate the context, here's my character setup.

Harmony, countess, magic lv 1 (yes 1), crown, innocence, book of arkhan, beguile
-Blonde, so know only 1 spell as its hard enough, fast, dances around and hypnotize with her 2 bouncing you know what ^_^

Darla, necro lv2, spell familiar
-Ancient and powerful master of magic, knows an extra spell

Drusilla, necro lv2, cursed book (in the same unit as Harmony)
-So mad she instills it on others around her

Faith, bretonnian questing paladin, virtue of duty (in the Bk unit)
-Very virtuous at first, she was corrupted by the power of darkness. Now, she quest for her lady Harmony.

I felt the extra spell was needed, as it gives me 1 more chance at rolling van hels, my favorite spell, and a great tactical and crucial spell. As i only have 7 power dice with my 5 magic levels, i didnt felt the periapt would help much, as i fear i'd have to drop a dice from my own pool to keep it, as my opponent would always use them all on purpose. And also, the familiar balance it with having only 1 spell with Harmony.

Your toughts ?

PS: If you want, i can post my army list, as well as pics of my painted/converted stuff, just ask if you wanna see. And you WANT to see my rather "unique" black coach

Bah my first reply lost to the ether.

I would take the spell familiar over the peripat in your current setup.

However I do question the use of a level one count with the crown over a level 2 with quickblood. This would give you the extra die and spell that you are after. And, imo, quickblood is superior to the crown.

Well, all is in the theme, not the efficiency.

The crown was taken mainly for the stupidity effect. Yeah, you read right. If there was another item that gave stupidity, i would have took it, but the 4+ ward is just a nice addition.

As for quickblood, i dunno. I much prefer innocence lost as my main defense. Killing all r'n'f in b2b is done easily with this, thus invalidating quickblood for me.

But again, the only time i took quickblood, my countess died from a stupid killing blow from a wardancer, because i didn't have the strike 1st power and failed my ward after all is lucky dice rolls. (The 2 other times she died was from chaos knights when she failed all her stupidity tests in turn 1-2 and 3 and in turn 3 i had nothing left and she crumbled to CR, the other time was in a challenge against a slaanesh chaos lord on dragon, after my crown kept me in for 3 whole turns, but my inability to hit even once in those 6 hth phases was what killed me)

As for the magic lv, yeah it would be more powerful lv2, but heck, she's a blonde, she's stupid, she can't know 2 spells. And i roll hand of dust almost 75% of the time and let her with it, so... And my 2 necros always use up all my dices on either 3 spells (3-2-2) or 2 dices and a small invoc (3-3-1) I even have gone as far as modeling 2 exact same models for my general, with distinctions for when she's sane or stupid, and thats the fun of it. All my opponent have a good laugh as i always have a good call for when she fail a test ^_^

Each and every item were taken for the fluff first, and for the effect second. Would it had been useless, i would have took it all the same. I'm that crazy.

And yet, with this list, i manage to win about 70% of the time, to my amazement, and no i don't play very bad players. Should put the BR of when i played a blood dragon with a fully kitted count on winged nightmare. One of my best games to date with my Lahmias and one who made shut up a hell lot of people.

All in all, tough, when (rarely) someone doesn't permit me the appendix list, my setup is lv2, innocence lost, quickblood, book of arkhan, sword of might.

I am impressed by your dedication to your army and to the spirit of the game. You would be an awesome person top play against anyday.

The list too is pretty good, even without the swain. So, bravo. I congradulate you.

Plus: quickblood and innocence lost are two amazing power too.
