Title: Several Lengthy Questions

awilde - April 29, 2007 09:03 AM (GMT)
I just wanted to find out several things, thought id ask all at once for simplicity;

1) Black Knights are heavy cavalry not fast/light right? (assuming if it doesnt say light/fast its heavy)

2) what were the rules for heavy cavalry? (couldnt find it in the new rule book) or where are the rules (if any specific ones exist) in the new 7th edition book?

3) whats the rules reguarding number of units in files to make a full rank? (like im guessing its 5 for infantry <eg 5 X 3 for +3 rank bonus>)
3b) is it the same for cavalry? and do black knights get rank bonuses in the first place?

4) silly question, but all vampires can immediately get targeted individually by enemy missiles right? (i thought i read that any unit with str 5+ can be targeted) so is it pointless to have the general in a unit to hide from enemy fire? (other than having the general as a leader of a large group of black knights/grave guard)

5) is there a limit to amount of skellies/zombies that can be raiseed? like could i have say a 1000pt army and 2000pts of skellies zombies sitting waiting to be raised?

6) lastly, does it matter how i modify my movement trays? for example, i made my grave guards a longer try with 5mm barriers between the ranks so they didnt smack each other with their shields, it doesnt make a diference if it extends the length of my unit does it? (i.e. instead of say being 60mm for 3 ranks of 20mm its now (20mm <5mm> 20mm <5mm> 20mm) = 70mm

I know that one sounds weird, but i just want to be sure its legal and i didnt waste 3 hrs cutting those damn movement trays and glueing my fingers together countless times

they're classed as cavalry in the BRB

2) what were the rules for heavy cavalry? (couldnt find it in the new rule book) or where are the rules (if any specific ones exist) in the new 7th edition book?

cavalry, BRB

3) whats the rules reguarding number of units in files to make a full rank? (like im guessing its 5 for infantry <eg 5 X 3 for +3 rank bonus>)

correct

3b) is it the same for cavalry? and do black knights get rank bonuses in the first place?

yes it's the same. Black knights do get rank bonuses, however it's often a lot cheaper to use the knights to inflict casualties and get infantry to provide static combat resolution

4) silly question, but all vampires can immediately get targeted individually by enemy missiles right? It's unit strength (i.e monsters with 5 or more wounds), not profile strength. There should be a reference sheet on the GW website

5) is there a limit to amount of skellies/zombies that can be raiseed? like could i have say a 1000pt army and 2000pts of skellies zombies sitting waiting to be raised?

There's no limit, though i tend to bring the same number as the number i have starting on the field, maybe about 15-20 more zombies. (N.b i always have about 60 of the summonables on the field to start)

It only disadvantages you, because your opponent can get more models into contact that way. best thing to do is have a look at the positioning in the normal movement trays, sometimes all that's wrong is the order of the models

1) look in the BRB.

2) cavalry. BRB. as Malbec said.

3&3b) look in the BRB.

4) as malbec said, unit strength, not profile strength. The difference is defined in the BRB. Read it.

5) no.

6) Ditto malbec.

By this I assume that you mean between the rows and not the collums? Cause if you are spreading apart the collums, thus increasing the front-on combat width of your unit, I would be unhappy.

You only get +2 for rank bonus here. 15 models(ranked up 5-5-5) have 2 additional ranks thus +2 CR not +3. In short, you only count additional ranks.
