Title: Cannons And Skirmishers Line
Description: Basic rules question

O.K. a simple question I hope from the newbie.

Can cannons and all guessed range weapons ignore skirmishers for shot ranges?

i.e. if I have a skirmish line of ghouls or fell bats in front of my units can opponents still 'target' the main units and guess ranges further than the skirmish line or does the LoS Block limit the range guess ?

From my reading of the rules, I believe my opponent must target a valid figure (i.e one of my figs not one of his) in LOS (i.e. only the skirmishers) but he can guess a range which will likely hit a unit behind them. Is this correct?

Just wondering if this is a valid target to avoid some cannon and rocket fire if those units are not top of a hill. At least with suitable placement of skirmishers I guess you can make it harder for an opponent to target perfectly where they want.

It can in fact be done, mostly because it's pretty damned hard for you to prove he guessed 3" to far on purpose - it is however cheating.

But if he doesn't want to be cheating, he must aim and guess for the skirmishers. He is of course allowed to hope for a veyr long bounce, but none the less, the guess must be for the skirmishers.

I agree with Kaz. It's basically a lame thing to do when he overguesses on purpose. If you think you find it out when you play against that person, simply tell him to stop it and play realistic or just never play him again.

Are we actually forgetting the luck side of this. I mean he does still have to throw an artillery dice for extra flight and then bounce. The distance between skirmishers and your second line would not be significant to effect his guess unless they were way behind and/or if he was on a hill. Usually I close my eyes and think about the misfire dice REALLY HARD! It works 8 times out of 10.
