Mannfred in the stories died a while ago after he attacked the empire. In one version it said that he was defeated and then he ran away, another he died. But then he was in Storm of Chaos and now he is dead in the Nemesis Campaign. They screwed up his story really badly.

he died in nemesis crown? where did it say that?
Ar'kazail - September 4, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
He died in Retribution, and I think he died in the Gotrek and Feilex book Vampire slayer (I love this series, I cant wait till the next one).
Ar'kazail Out!

he was in vampireslayer? i read that and i didnt recall seeing him anywhere....all i remember was the main baddie was adolphus krieger (who was smashed to bits in retribution). Am i correct to say hes still alive now....hes the current count of drakenhof.

He didn't die in the Nemesis Crown, he was already dead. So the other vampire is going to Sylavania to take it over.

oh....thats a bit naff. could someone give me a page reference to mannfred being in vampire slayer.
Duke Malbec of Moussillon - September 6, 2007 11:32 AM (GMT)
One thing to remember In Retribution he was thought to have the Von Carstein ring. Remember that the majority of fluff is written from the view of the empire/bretonnians

Mannfred was not in Vampireslayer.
He did, however, have a run in with Gotrek and Felix. NOT in Vampireslayer.
The pair was present when the mad necromancer Hermann Schtillmann was about to resurrect Mannfred using the blood of a maiden sacrifice. Characteristically, Gotrek charged in without a second thought - after chopping through some zombies, finally cleaving Schtillmann in two.
Unfortunately (fortunately? :P ), Schtillmann's blood was as good as the maiden's and Mannfred regenerated from just a pile of bones.
Still weak, Mannfred chose to flee in a puff of smoke instead of combating either the dwarf or his human associate.

Oops, I thought the vampire in Vampireslayer was Madfred. Oh well.
Ar'kazail Out!

I doubt he is dead.
Reasons why it is possible Mannfred is alive-
- After the SoC, Mannfred returned to Sylvania to chase Crom out of his lands. His sudden departure may be Mannfred just pursuing Crom - albeit for an unusally long time
- GW Fluff is largely written from the point of view of the Empire. The Empire believes that Mannfred is dead after Hel Fenn. No body believed Felix Jaeger; a well known criminal.
- Mannfred stated in Liber Necris (which he wrote) that he is attempting to absorb the various powers of the different vampire bloodlines - much like Melkhior, who ate W'soran. Mannfred could just be travelling the world, snacking on Vamps.
- He is a great character. I doubt that GW would write him off so uncerimoniously. This could be just groundwork for his grand return in the new VC book.

cool so what gotrek and felix book was he in.
The Inspector - September 8, 2007 09:30 PM (GMT)
No book - it was an independent story by GW (written by Bill King before he got the shaft, I believe).
I have it as a pdf document - I'm sure that if you looked hard enough online you should come upon it also.

The Inspector - September 14, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, I can't seem to find it online either. I would e-mail it to you but I'm in between computers at the moment and my e-mail isn't 100%
Does anyone know of this article's online source?
Edit-
oh never mind, within a matter of minutes of writing this I managed to find it online.
HERE it is.

History-wise, we know that when a bad guy is left for dead in a lake/marsh, he'll be back. (Jason Voorhees, Lestat and others). A classic move.
But I'm confused. Inspector, what it the timeline for the events you describe?
