Just bought a pro painted Konrad Von Carstein off Ebay. Now looking to use him in my army. Does anyone have any experience using this guy. What are his limits? Obiviously with only a 5+ armour save he has no staying power.

good to kill R&F troops or a hero not to heavily armoured and just great against high wound targets with low AS
ive used him against my mates ogres very successfully the main choice i think is wether to keep him near the general to pass his "on bat short of a belfry test" or put him further away and hope he goes frenzied. |

Though I've considerd Konrad from time to time I have never deployed him. From what I've read and heard he seems to be a killmachine.
And like Darthken has said either keep him under the general's umbrella or let him wander on his own. A combo I've seen popping up when Konrad is envolved is this. A magic heavy general (forbidden lore,...) using Steed of Shadows/Unseen Lurker on Konrad. And we have are own assassin Yours B |

I have used Konrad in the past. He is a killing machine, especially against multiple wound models (Konrad is the bane of Ogres) because his Swords of Waldenhof stack with red fury giving him a potential to cause 30 wounds in a singe round of combat. Stick him in a unit with a Wight King to both challenge out crazy characters and to give him leadership 9 for his potential stupidity tests and you will be golden. You won't even have to keep him in range of the general then and remember he has the vampire rule still (for marching purposes) even though he's not a caster.
His uses are against rank and file, any lower toughness units and multiple wound models/units. His limitations are he only has the 5+ save as you noted, he's not as reliable against high armour save models/units, and also watch out for people drawing him out of a unit by himself when he becomes frenzied because of his One Bat Short of a Belfry rule (he's M6 versus his accompanying units' M4). Overall, for his point cost, Konrad really is a bargain and a half and can be absolutely lethal. If you really want to break him, give his Wight King bodyguard the Drakenhof Banner. Corpse cart for the always strikes first is also a really good way to reduce his chances of death from oncoming charges because he'll get to strike first and usually wipes out everything in front of him if he gets a chance to attack. He's a lot of fun to run especially with his unpredictability. Throw him in a unit and that unit can become a "Hammer" unit. Good luck, let us know how he works out for you. You can't use any other characters Ld except the general's, for a stupidity test. If he's more than 12" from the general, he's testing on 6. |

Really? I thought you used the highest leadership available in the unit for leadership/characteristic tests? (When you are outside the general's range at least) This post has been edited by Althulus on Oct 28 2009, 05:39 PM |

Well I'm not 100% sure. But a quick look in the psychology rules would probably answer your question.

Units use the highest leadership value available, and Konrad is part of the unit, so yes, Konrad gets to use Wight King's leadership. I'd also advise using the Wight King's regeneration banner while you're at it, as Konrad is very squishy otherwise!

I would love to include a Wight King BsB to protect Konrad. Its just that I don't have the points to spare in my current tournament list. I've only had one game with Konrad so far. He went stupid on turn 2. But I'm not really concerned about him to be honest. I'm more worried about this lack of saves than his state of mind.
I did launch him by himself out of his unit into a unit of 15 Tomb King skeletons and he did a nice job. After combat there was only 1 left. Not too many other Hero level characters in Warhammer can do that. |
