Hi all, just assembled a box of these and i was just wondering wot people do bout painting them, it looks a lot easier to paint them before glueing them to the bases, is this the usual way?
Also wot colour do u usualy u/c them ,white or black? Dave This post has been edited by snoopholly on Nov 7 2009, 05:59 PM |

Evening D
I always use a white undercoat. Cos it gives more credit to the oil paint I use. But that's just a personal preference. In regards to glueing them. I glue them first and then start painting. And yes, sometimes it becomes tricky to paint the belly well. But I don't mind. Yours B This post has been edited by Bauglir on Nov 7 2009, 08:03 PM |

Cheers B
Yea, i was thinking of using white as i thought it would make the flesh, muscle and skin of the new model look better, the old model could be done black as thr was no flesh n muscle on them. Think i'll base them after painting though Dave |

I only have the old dire wolves. Cos I don't like the new ones. The same goes for the ghouls. Though I've seen a painting log where this chap had removed all the so-called ornaments and spiky bits. And then they become a bit more appealing to me.

I always undercoat black - for this particular "can't get under the belly when its stuck together" this just helps with being darkly shaded. You can get into those areas with a fine brush. I can't paint anything that's been undercoated white, my paintwork always looks wishywashy on top of it. This could be the fact that I'm not as good as others in this area. I think the black undercoat is great for an undead army and allows you that shaded comfort when painting - again just a preference.

I use a grey spray primer from tamiya for my undercoat. I find this works very well as a netural base coat. I have lots of trouble getting good light colour over a black base. For some models, generally anything with a lot of metalic colours (ie. lots of armour) I use a black base.
A black ink wash at the end I also find tends to shade out any of those spaces you missed. |
