The first grand tournament of the year will most likely run the same as the previous year. You get an additional 6 Battle Points before the tournament even starts if your army consists of a 30% core. This list reflects that goal. 6 Battle points doesn't sound like alot. But last I got second best overall. Without those extra points I would have been in 4th place. Going for a 4 pronged attack here. Zombie Dragon/Lord, Thrall on HellSteed, Vampire/Skelies and Blood Knights. Should give the enemy lots to think about.

Vampire Lord 480
Bloody Hauberk 45pts, Infinite Hatred, Red Fury 50pts, Infinite Hatred 25pts, 10pts Bale Fire Spike, 25pts Dispel Scroll, Black Periapt 15, 30pts Hell Steed.

Why the CC? I'd lose it and make the support thrall Dark Acolyte/Lord of the Dead, Helm of Commandment/Black Periapt.

Or Winged Horror/Dark Acolyte/Helm of Commandment/Black Periapt for that 32" WS 6 and chariot busting goodness.

Beguile is probably better than Lord of the Dead on Blooddrinker thrall.

Agreed. In this kind of army (well, any army without grave guards) CC isn't needed. Rather take 'normal' sized infantry, in some games you won't have time to raise them. WE and DE can easily kill skellies in one round, while Lizards and Empire won't let you cast more then one spell/ turn.

I was kind of thinking of a 3 pronged attack. Zombie Dragon, Blood Knights and Skeleton unit with two Vampires. I could put one Vampire onto a HellSteed and have him fly around and be more as utility character. As suggested the Helm of Commandment/Black Periapt.

I just concerned that this leaves my Skeleton unit too weak in the "hitty" department.

I usually run my skellies 20 strong, with a magic banner. Some vamp joins them and the go forward. In most cases they kill an enemy infantry unit with a fighty character. Or make a no fly zone for enemy dragons.
If not they at least try to stay away from death stars and try not to get magiced and shot to bits.
I don't have high expectations for 20 of them but starting off with 10 strong seems worse. And having 2 lvl1 vamps in them and rolling bad for the first magic phase might resolve in two dead vamps.

Sorry for the noobie questions guys but
1 wots a CC?
2 why put so many points into the general and not take all the character slots, u only seem to have 3 instead of 4, im assuming its so theres very little chance of the Gen being slaine.
3 Why only have 1 inf unit, isnt thr a chance that your army could be over run too quikly and suffer badly from heavy missile fire?
Again sorry if they sound very noobie but if i dont ask i dont learn.

Hi D,

CC stands for Corpse Cart.

About the general and allocation of points. Well, VC tends to have quite expensive lords and heroes as they are the key to the whole army. That's one reason.

Why 3 instead of 4 characters? Because cypress is running a dragonlist he cannot have more than 3 characters. As the dragon takes up a hero slot.

Eumh, D. There 3 infantry units in the list. 1 skellie and 2 ghoul units.
Why are there so few of them? Quite simply. They are not the key here. His dragon and Blood knights are. The wolves are there to get escort them safely to the other side.

The obligatory infantry units are there to claim table qaurters, save his skellies unit maybe. As Konrad is "leading" them.

Hopes this clears thing up a bit.

Yours
B

Yep Bauglir summed up all your questions nicely. The list is designed to hit hard and punch through. Playing agianst other VC and Deamons can be very challenging for this style though. As any unit or monster that can bog me down spells trouble. Against those types of armies I'll combo charge my Vamp on Hellsteed and Dragon. Thats 9 strength 6 attacks, 3 strength 7 attacks and 1 strength 4 attack all with Infinite Hatred. Even when this combo doesn't smash through there really isn't very much left of whatever they just hit.

One worthy note. I'm still not happy with my Lords gear. I want a good armour save and ward.

Maybe I'll have to use Walach's Bloody Hauberk. That with the Avatar of Death for the Sheild to give a 3+ armour save and a 5+ ward. I would love to use Crown of the Damned and Flayed Hauberk together. But in a Tournament you can't risk stupidity on your General on a Dragon. You're just asking for trouble.
