Slash stepped carefully out into the valley ears pricked for the sound of snakes. "Okay we made it without getting bit, lets try and keep it that way" he mewed to Darkness.

"Okay," mewed Darkness nervously. A chilly breeze blew through the valley, lifting the fur on her back.
The two cats set off, scanning the scents of the air for prey. Jaws parted slightly, Darkness's mouth watered as she caught the scent of a vole. Crouching down among the bare foliage and sparse bushes, the dark she-cat waved her tail to signal Slash to stay still. Ears swiveling, she pinpointed the vole at the pebbly shore of the pool. It was dingy and skinny, but it was there; rubbing its paws together to clean itself. Crouching low, Darkness began to stalk the small creature. Every step was a strain to stay slow and quiet- her eyes were wide and her ears fixed on the vole. It's back was to her, giving her a slight advantage, and the chilly breeze was blowing back on her face, over the pool, meaning it couldn't smell her either. Several tail-lengths from the rodent, she crouched low, tail wiggling, and pounced, claws extended. She felt her paws brush something furry, then it was gone. She'd overshot it! Her paws landed on the pebbly beach, but instead of sinking among the stones, her paws hit slick ice. The moisture on the beach had frozen, leaving a wide patch of smooth, slippery ice. With a yowl and a desperate lunge for dry ground, her paws flew out from under her body and she slid down the bank, crashing under the surface of the pool.
The water was icy, and hit her like a brick wall. She heard a yowl from the surface, but her own splashes and sputters drowned most of it out. She was under the surface, having slid off the steep stone drop-off. Jaws stretched wide, she tried to yowl out of instinct, and icy watter hit her lungs like a boulder. Paws flailing, she sank lower into the dark depths.

Slash looked up from the eagle he had just caught when he heard an ear-splitting yowl. Darkness! The ebony and silver she cat was floundering almost 5 feet under water and was weakening quickly. Building up his courage he knew he was good at swimming but not that good. Splash threw himself in to the water kicking hard to reach her.2 feet...3 feet...4 feet...His lungs were burning...5 feet he was there! Grasping Darkness’s scruff he towed them both up to the surface ,carefully lifting the wet she cat up and laying her down, Don’t be dead, he prayed.

Darkness's world was fading when she felt a tug on her pelt. It must be the Tribe of Endless Hunting. They're taking me away... she thought. Her lungs burned, but even that pain was fading. Suddenly, she felt her body rushing upward, and her head broke the surface of the water. Gasping, her eyes flew open and she was blinded by the sunlight. Scrabbling to the shore, her paws found land and she retched a huge amount of water from her lungs. Her body felt numb and frozen, and the edges of her vision fuzzed black. Heaving, she looked up to see a sodden Slash standing at the shore, coughing and gasping for breath. She tried to say something, but her swollen throat choked on the words. Staring at Slash, she suddenly felt incredibly dizzy, and her head fell back to the rocky earth, her world spinning into darkness.

Slash saw Darkness’s eyes flicker and felt a spot of hope bloom in his chest followed by a feeling he had never felt. Sitting next to her he began to rub her chest to force the water out. “Come on Darkness, wake up! You can’t leave me. I know I just met you, well sort of, but I can’t lose you!”

(Slash is blabbering on and on,*pats poor kitty on back*Calm down!)

When Darkness came to, she was warm and dry. Eyes blinking, she studied her surroundings. She was lying under a bush, in a makeshift nest of dry leaves and ferns. The warmth was coming from Slash, curled up in the nest next to her. Her eyes and head felt heavy, and stiff. Her joints ached, and she shivered and shook her pelt as she remembered the intense cold of the pool. Her movement awoke Slash, and he stretched.

(Just a comment, you power-played Slash)

Slash was awaken by Darkness’s movement and sat up, smacking his head on a branch in the process. Remembering his earlier blabbering he shifted his weight and mewed “Are you okay?”

"I'm... Okay, I think." Mewed Darkness in a small voice. Her throat was still sore.
"My body feels heavy, like I've turned to stone. I'm so cold." She whispered hoarsely.

Slash pressed against Darkness to warm her up and nudged his eagle closer “Do you want to share?” he said shyly.

"Sure." Croaked Darkness, nibbling the large bird's wing. The meat was cold, but refreshing. She began to eat it with more gusto, realizing she was ravenous.
"Did you jump in the water?" She inquired, between mouthfuls.

(MOHEGAN!!!!!!! OMG I wrote Splash instead of Slash!Fixing it!)

“Did you jump in the water?”

Slash swallowed before he answered “Yes I did. I did it because I didn’t want you to die.” And then he added softly “I would miss you.”

(hehe I know, its so confusing! I keep reading the RPGs of Splash to get caught up, then I get all mixed up )

"Really?" gasped Darkness, then her ears twitched. She felt slightly hot. "I would miss you too." She said quickly, then busied herself by cleaning her face.

Slash felt his pelt grow hot when Darkness replied and leaned down to smooth out his chest fur. ”So, are you warmer yet?” Slash asked calmly.

Darkness flexed her limbs. She was warm, but all of her limbs felt stiff. Her pelt felt matted and dirty.
"Pretty warm," She mewed. "Should we head back to camp?"

“”Why-“Slash broke off as an earsplitting yowl echoed off the valley walls. River! Slash burst out from under the bush and raced toward the sound. He reached the source of the noise to find it bleeding from many wounds, and twisted at odd angles. And it was dead. Slash let a mournful yowl loose from his throat. Leaning down he gripped Rivers scruff and carried her back to Darkness. “We have to go back to camp.” He mewed mournfully.
