Controller name: Cretey

Character name: Aragorn Edward Philliphan (Fil-LIP-han)

Nickname: Arty (mainly from Bune), Arrie (pronounced both “airy” and “ari”), Ar (mainly from Lucy (pronounced “air”))

Sex: Male

Age: 24

Species: Human

Magic: (elves only) N/A

Parents: Clyde and Jessica Philliphan

Marital Status: single (has a steady stream of girlfriends, and some relationships in between, though!)

Siblings: Bune, age 19, who lives with him in Gate, and Lucy, age 16, who still lives with their parents

Eye color: Hazel, like his brother’s, though leans more towards green, like his sister’s. Like his siblings’, his eyes are relatively small, but not unattractively so. He wears contact lenses; he can’t stand glasses, but vision is absolutely essential for a painter!

Hair color/description: A brown somewhere in between “medium brown” and “dark brown”, and very thick. In his art school days, he would let his best female friend (whom he never slept with, thank you very much) spike it with a wee bit of gel, so copious amounts of pictures abound of him in that state. Bune thinks they’re hilarious. Now, though, Aragorn has moved on to bigger, better styles—now he’s dreaded it. He keeps them meticulously clean, because dirty dreads are gross (unfortunately, he sweats a lot; fortunately, his hair doesn't really get greasy); while he occasionally pulls them back with an elastic band, he usually lets them flop everywhere. He usually tries to keep his face clean-shaven, but often gets wrapped up in his friends, girlfriends, or artwork, and forgets.

Height/Build: 5’11.5”, broad from shoulder to shoulder and across the hips but not as stocky as his brother. He works out occasionally enough to keep in shape, but was gifted with a quick metabolism that keeps him fit with scarcely trying.

Appearance: Aragorn has a strong jawbone, an eagle-bridged nose, a moderate tan and, usually, a healthy flush. He usually wears jeans or loose denim pants along with t-shirts in muted tones; he has a penchant for painting or wandering around the apartment (or even onto the street, if he thinks it’s only gonna be for a minute) wearing nothing but boxers. Consequently, even most of his boxers have paint splotches on them, which can be, as Bune puts it, “a little awkward,” but as Aragorn prefers to think of it, “a conversation starter.” (“A conversation starter? I think you’re past the point of starting conversations by the time she’s seen your boxers!” says Bune. Aragorn just grins at him.)

Personality: Bune always accuses Aragorn of being an “incurable romantic,” but really, that’s not quite true. Aragorn tends to be “amazed” (in his own words) by women regularly, but they’re women of all dispositions (and appearances,) his relationships with them take all forms, and he’s quite practical when the relationships end. He’s also amazed by men, too, in a non-sexual way, and admires a great many people, both real and fictional. He makes good friends quickly, seldom even stops to think that someone might not like him back, and tries to remain friends with his girlfriends even after they break up. He’s passionate about what he believes in, but he has a secret fear that his will might not be very strong if he was ever actually tested. He seldom gets angry, just disgruntled, and is then soothed rather easily. Painting is his calling, and almost always has been; he’s dabbled in a few other forms of art (Bune once taught him to throw, for example) but keeps coming back to the same medium. (He also prefers acrylics to oil, unusually enough.) Glassworking he thought was great fun; photography he couldn’t stand. He can get way too caught up in his art sometimes, which can make him feel a bit of remorse afterwards, though not much; Lucy is best at getting this remorse out of him. He adores his parents and both his siblings, and privately thinks that Bune is the only thing stopping him from descending into artistic madness and cutting off an ear like Van Gogh or something.

Talents/skills: A good drawer and an excellent painter, especially of nude young women that he’s going out with at the time. Oh, just kidding; he does do that fairly frequently, but he's also good at loving, detailed portraits of people he's not in a romantic relationship with, and does a good many paintings with other subject matter, too.

Tobacco/Alcohol/Drug addiction: Smokes pot fairly often (it’s a habit he picked up in art school), but wouldn’t quite say he’s addicted. NEVER paints while high, for a variety of reasons.

Brief background history: Aragorn's father is an accountant (a very genial one) and his mother a librarian; both his maternal grandparents, however, and one of his paternal grandparents, were artists, so his family was always very understanding of his and Bune's artistic tendencies. Aragorn’s mother, Jessica, is a complete fantasy nerd; hence his name, his brother’s (from an obscure sci-fi novel) and his sister’s (Lucy Pevensie, from the Narnia books.) (His father pitched in by giving him a normal middle name.) Aragorn achieved moderately good grades in high school, but his real passion was art, especially painting. Upon graduation, he went to art school, where he had the time of his life. He learned a number of lessons, especially that: 1) as much as other artists claimed that it worked for them, he should never paint while high; 2) he liked girls, a lot, and when one left, well, there was always plenty more fish in the sea; 3) he had a natural tendency to get distracted halfway through a painting and make the background a lot more vague, abstract, or trippy than the subject of the painting (or the other way around, depending on which field he started with), and he should just roll with it and let it be his signature style.

When he graduated from art school, he was a little unsure of what to do with himself, and decided to go to Gate to see what it was like, and because he had inherited some of his mother’s incurably romantic feelings towards elves and other fantastic things. And, come on, beautiful elf ladies! His father, Clyde, suggested he take his younger brother, Bune, who had just graduated from highschool with no interest in anything but ceramics, and Aragorn readily agreed; when Bune finally consented, the two found a small, two-room apartment in a basement (with just enough light coming through the ceiling windows) in Gate. Aragorn stocked up on paints (and contact lenses,) Bune convinced his parents to buy him a wheel, and the two set off with their art supplies. They have the usual number of squabbles, but in general, get along well; Aragorn sometimes gets wrapped up in his girlfriend-of-the-moment or his work, or, often, both at once, and sends Bune off to stay with their other friends for a few days, but Bune always forgives him. (Bune also gets his revenge by not even trying to remember Aragorn's girlfriends' names; he simply refers to them as Arwen, if they're an elf, and Eowyn if they're human.)

The girl in the picture with him is Sophia Johnson, his best friend. The two met on their first day of art school when Aragorn decided she was cute and asked her out. They dated for exactly eight days before they both decided to break it off. They managed to remain best friends, however, to this very day, and always joke that someday they'll end up marrying each other, when Aragorn has been through all the other girls and Sophia has broken all the other boys
