Intro to Video:

In the recent study "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy", the authors of the paper, Professor Stephen Walt of Harvard University and John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago, charge that the United States has willingly set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of Israel. In addition the study accuses the pro-Israeli lobby, particularly AIPAC of manipulating the U.S. media, policing academia and silencing critics of Israel by labeling them as anti-Semitic.

A new article in the New York Review of Books examines the controversial report and the reaction to it. It's called "The Storm Over the Israel Lobby." It was written by media critic Michael Massing, who joins Amy Goodman for the interview. Michael is a contributing editor of the Columbia Journalism Review and frequently writes for the New York Review of Books.

Sure AIPAC has a right to be a lobbyist.

HOWEVER, when AIPAC (or any Lobbyist for that matter) starts threatening Congressmen (or any individual), harassing people who speak out against them, ruining people's careers when they speak out against Israel, or far worse; THIS IS OVER THE LINE, AND UNACCEPTABLE. YOU GUYS KNOW THAT.

THIS IS WHY AMERICANS ARE OUTRAGED. WE'RE ALSO ENRAGED BECAUSE WE ARE JUST NOW LEARNING THE PALESTINIAN SIDE OF THE STORY, AND HAVE FOUND THAT THE LOBBY HAS BEEN LYING TO AMERICA IN OUR MEDIA FOR A VERY LONG TIME. THIS IS INEXCUSEABLE!

CLEAN UP YOUR ACT AND START SHOWING SOME HONOR IN YOUR LOBBY, AND MAYBE YOU WILL REGAIN YOUR REPUTATION. RIGHT NOW, IT IS MUD!

Leaders Fear Probe Will Force Pro-Israel Lobby to File as "Foreign Agent":
http://www.fpp.co.uk/online/05/01/Israel_spy11.html

Background: (2004)

"The concerns come just weeks after the FBI raided Aipacís office and four of the groupís top officials were subpoenaed by a grand jury. For months, the federal probe was believed to center on allegations that Aipac officials might have illegally passed classified documents on to Israel, which they received from a Pentagon employee, Larry Franklin. In recent weeks, media reports have surfaced suggesting that the FBI used Franklin to entrap officials at the pro-Israel lobby."

Well, how did this end? Were they required to register as a "FOREIGN AGENT" or did this story just die like so many over time?

COMMON SENSE WOULD TELL ME THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REGISTER AS A FOREIGN AGENT SINCE THEY REPRESENT THE STATE OF ISRAEL. HOW WERE THEY ALLOWED TO REGISTER JUST AS LOBBYISTS PRIOR?
