Title: Time to Start Shopping
WhitetailLady - April 9, 2009 02:48 PM (GMT)
I've decided I seriously need to start looking for an evil black rifle myself. There was a lot of back and forth here about them and prices; don't want to wade back through all the post.
Soooooooooo, what's an AR 15 going for these days?
Jake D. - April 9, 2009 03:52 PM (GMT)
My neighbor bought a complete one yesterday for $1450. BUT that's a complete Colt which are overpriced in my mind. I'm gonna build one for around $750. And that's counting buying a complete upper assembly for around $550. The cheapest I found at the gun show for a complete was $1150.

Thanks Jake. Helps figure out how much money I need to get together.

Colleen, I have a very special Bushmaster AR-15. It has all kinds of neat bells and whistles. With the LE discounts that the factory applied, 5 years ago it was like $750. From what I understand my model is now worth big $$$. Nope not for sale. If my son continues to keep his nose clean, it will be his. If not, I will see that one of my buddies end up with it. Someone who knows where my hiding hole is when the time comes.
Are you looking at an AR or getting in cheaper with an SKS?
I have a buddy that just bought 2 at the pawn shop. keep an eye out when driving around.

Lookin at an AR15 Herbie. My mechanic (who I've known all my life) goes to a lot of gun shows. Figure I'll ask him to keep an eye out for me. He's got my number so if sees a good deal he can call me.

Go Colleen Go Colleen :D
Welcome to the evil black rifle cub in advance ;)
Look to spend about a grand +/- $100
Look at www.model1sales.com
I would only go with NAME brands of AR manufacturers. There are quite a few AR lower makers who have jumped on the bandwagon pumping out lowers, some good some bad.
Here are a few manufacturers I have faith in or have heard good stuff about:
Colt, Rock River, Stag Arms, Lewis Machine & Tool, Barrett, S&W, DPMS, LAR,
Bushmaster( includes Remington AR's), Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Armalite and Olympic Arms.
These are all that I can think of right now.
Easy rifle to disassemble/ maintain and shoot.
Good Luck with your acquisition.

Colleen, i can get a compete AR right now as we speak for 850 and that's with a complete Rock River Lower with 4 position stock that he is selling for 324. The Uppers that i can get through a buddy right now are going for between 400 and 500. Buying a simple upper could get you in the neighborhood of 800 out the door. Prices in NY are much higher than down here...

Chad, that's a heck of a deal. I'll have to see if I can do some creative financing. Friend of mine was up at the gun show in Syracuse yesterday and he said AR's were going for $1200-$1600.
ADjam5 - April 20, 2009 04:52 PM (GMT)
Get 'em while you can....
Jake D. - April 20, 2009 05:03 PM (GMT)
I would look away form Olympic Arms. I've only heard bad about them. I'm building what essentially is a DPMS. I have a stripped doublestar lower, but that will really be the only non-DPMS part. And that lower is just a metal framework so I wasn't worried about it. Eventually I will be putting a two stage RRA match trigger in my gun. But that will be later when I want to spend $120 on a trigger.

We should have a "black gun" shoot. Every one get the same target, and shoot at predetermined distances. Best grouping gets bragging rights. Ammo up.
Jake D. - April 21, 2009 04:32 AM (GMT)
Good idea Herbie. But lets wait until mine is built lol
Herbie - April 21, 2009 08:36 AM (GMT)
